Morning -

Looking to hopefully move for a new job in August in Muttenz and to live in Basel.

Apologies in advance of the amount of help i'm going to require over the next six months

Re: Uk-->Basel

Welcome.

Why will you live in Basel rather than Muttenz?

Re: Uk-->Basel

Thank you

My partner has family in Strasbourg and Sissach, so being central to the station is ideal, as well as being close to the border for shopping and the airport.

We may move to Muttenz for temporary Accomodation when we first move, but the overall plan is to live in the City of Basel and I will either cycle or train to Muttenz in the week.

It may be that once she settles with work as well we will have the capital (estimate~ together of 160k chf) to have a decent choice of where we live.

Re: Uk-->Basel

Muttenz is equally handy for cross border shopping. It's less than 30 minutes to the airport by train and bus, and SBB is 5 minutes by train. Health insurance premiums and income tax are higher in BS than in BL.

It's not always that easy to find accommodation you like, so my advice would be not to restrict area too much. The majority of Zone 10 and neighbouring zones really won't make much of a difference to SBB/Airport/Border shopping, but can vary widely in costs and quality of life. If you plan on having a car, that can be a real pain in the city. See the map here.

Use comparis.ch to compare tax rates between different communities/towns/villages.

Re: Uk-->Basel

Ok thankyou.

We will try not to pigeonhole ourselves. Is the difference between premiums really that big?

One downside of Muttenz is that the amount of choice of accommodation is much smaller. Plus my girlfriend has been harping at me for the last two years that she wants to move to Basel City Centre and that has been the basis of our planned move.

Welcome to the forum and soon to Switzerland.

There's a wealth of info in the various sticky threads here on the forum and I also suggest you get hold of a copy of "Living and Working in Switzerland" by David Hampshire. It's full of useful info for both before and after you move. You can order it from your local bookshop or via the internet. Make sure you get the latest edition.

The difference is about 500 CHF for the least expensive insurances/models. Perhaps check them out on www.priminfo.admin.ch/. Usually you want either the highest or the lowest deductible.

In that case you have no choice!
