Infant Teacher relocating from London to Zürich in 2 weeks!

Hello Everyone,

I am about to move to Zürich end of August, with my partner (unmarried) who has got himself a permanent job in Zug. He has worked in Switzerland before so is familiar with the system. We have a flat in Zürich and I have been applying like crazy for the last 3 months for a job in and around the Zürich area in preparation for this move. I have not heard back from a lot of International Schools, I am not sure if this is because of the school holidays? I have 10 years experience and I would like to continue my career as best as I can during my time in Switzerland. I have managed to secure a few interviews for a few lesser roles, which is positive. I am also stressing also about Brexit... will I be sent home if I don't get myself a job in the next couple of months?! There are so many different things about what I need to do first upon arrival, could anyone just give me a few pointers as to what I should do first, documents to bing out etc. Should I bring a few English teaching resources? - Are they easy to obtain? Also, I am a very active person and I would like to join the gym, swimming or a few clubs to make some new friends. Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you

Teachers who only speak English for international schools are in very high supply for very low demand.....

Hello and welcome.

The international school hiring cycle is probably complete for the upcoming academic year. Recruiting (often through agencies) starts in the early spring with job fairs and postings. Most certainly bring your educational qualifications and proof of teaching certifications. I can't help you with Brexit, but bring whatever teaching supplies you can as availability here for English supplies is really limited. I shipped mine from the States.
Deep breaths. Sometimes you don't know what you need/what/should do first until you get here.

And you're only a short hop from...where are you from originally? And what year do you teach?

While you look for the perfect job, you may find something in a bilingual childcare centre. There are lots of those around the area.

Thank you very much for the advice & especially regarding teaching resources. I am coming over from London and I am also looking at other options besides from working in an International School. Just want to keep options open as much as possible at this stage.

To teach in state schools you need the local language at a very high level, C1 +

Even as English teacher

It is C2 However, for secondary school teachers and higher which solely teach a foreign language B2 in the local language is good enough.
