How to meet like-minded English-speaking people in the Ostschweiz?

Hello fellow expats!

So far, it's been a tough one for me.
I am female, in my mid 40s, married to a Swiss guy, with 2 preteen children born here. I'm a stay at home mum (for long reasons that are not relevant right now), and I am, not surprisingly, BORED OUT OF MY MIND.

I speak a decent German, but in spite of my efforts, I can't like the language. It irritates my throat and after a day speaking it, I need a lie down. (Sorry for the rant, but I don't have many chances of actually saying this).

I'd love to go to Zürich for a meeting, but that means I have 2 hours on the train, going and back, which makes it a liiiiittle difficult for me to do it when the kids are in school.

Is there anyone living in Toggenburg, Rapperswil, Wil, St. Gallen, etc...? Looking forward to a coffee!

Glad my coffee was nowhere near my mouth!
I think that was my excuse for not speaking Dutch in Holland back then - I mean with the amount of 'g's in words, they got about ten times the "ch" we have here.

However, a quick search lead me here. Didn't check it though.
There is a face-book group, which I - not being on face book - only found via google though.

Did you google at all?

Likewise, so I moved to Ticino.

Much nicer language.

anche molto più facile

If it's the language (not the people) that put OP off from meeting new friends it will be indeed a bit difficult.
Expats in Winterthur too. A bit closer than Zurich.

Oh, yes, definitively the language. I have plenty of Swiss friends and they are lovely people. The problem is that after meeting them I need to take a day off to rest my throat

Well, and the fact that having a nice intellectual conversation becomes difficult in a language that you don't completely master...

My mother tongue is actually Spanish, since I was born in Argentina. I met a few compatriots, but for some reason I found difficult to meet people with similar interests. I like music, podcasts, books, movies, all in English... I'm already too far removed from my birth country. Not sure I'm sorry, though

German's easy when you've drunk a lot of beer!

A day? I feel like that after 30 minutes. Or 30 seconds if it's dialect...

Everything's easier after a few beers. I can even speak Mandarin when I'm drunk. Now, no one can understand me, so probably they didn't drink enough.

You know what? I find dialect cuter than Hochdeutsch.
Although I don't understand squat sometimes, for me it's very region/accent-dependent.
But it sounds sympathisch, like a bit jumpy, and merry.

I was kidding really. I'm learning dialect and find it rather nice. Hochdeutsch can have a lovely rhythm, but not good for singing.
