Wigan? Posh?!!!
Made me laugh too, particularly seeing as I lived there for 48yrs..

Not saying Godalming is crap, but it's like 'The Land That Time Forgot' and I'd take Wigan over Godalming every day of the week in a heartbeat. Windsor was cool, but we were only there because we both worked at Heathrow, so whilst we could see the castle from the bathroom window, the pay off was having A380s pass directly over the house at a height where you could see passengers' waving at you.
They wern´t waving at you, they were trying to throw you peanuts.

Wigan Ok perhaps I'll take that back. There are definitely posh bits of lancs though. My late grandmother lived in Lytham which was pleasant enough in an old person by the sea kind of a way.

I'd happily have taken that over Thai International scaring the poop out me with their low flying to give their passengers a good view of the castle.

It does.
We used to go to a crackin' Greek restaurant in Lytham called the Olive Tree Brasserie. Mmmm....

Proving my point... people from Blackpool think that Lytham is posh.

Monte Carlo is posh
Lytham is nice enough, but the biggest thing it has going for it is that it isn’t Blackpool.

I’ve seen this before, but it popped up on my FB feed again last week.

Re: Where are you originally from?

Born in London
Lived in Herne Bay for years
Back to London
Then to Geneva
Back to Kent at present although still keep my place in the Jura and thinking of maybe returning for good...

Regarding Wigan - have a daughter who lives at Parbold just outside - can't get over how incredibly friendly people are around Wigan- love going up there

I hear they call Morecambe "Blackpool´s bitch," having said that I always liked Fleetwood for some reason, especially up Skippool creek where my father repaired the diesels on trawlers... No idea where the engines or spares came from but it is said that Lancashire truckers were in for a surprise come Monday when they tried to fire up the Bedfords.

Morecambe is a funny place. I went to university in Lancaster at the turn of the century and had a girlfriend who was from there and still lived there. It seemed like the whole place was being left to go to ruin after the great hope of Mr Blobbly Land went bust.

I don’t think it helps places like that to be so far from the motorway. At least you can go to Blackpool safe in the knowledge that you can escape quickly. It looks like they‘ve opened a major road from Morecambe to the M6 in the last few years, which I guess helps.

I must admit, Blackpool has done a lot work in the last decade, much like an aging diva at a beauty clinic. The promenade has been refurbished, the piers have had money spent on them and the tower has had a make over with the ball room being brought back to Victorian splendor, aaand Marlene Dietrich´s lost pearl earring was found, over 70 years after she lost it. Blackpool seems to have sucked all the available investments leaving Morecambe to just wither.

Re: Where are you originally from?

My place of origin is in Kt. SG, that of my wife is in Zueri-Oberland, 15km from mine, but she speaks no German.

But I am originally from New England, and my wife from Lugano.

@grumpygrapefruit - at last a grown up!

Don’t know why it’s so difficult to answer where people lived before they relocated to Switzerland. I used to spend a lot of time in Leeds actually before we moved to London. We still pop back from time to time to visit our parents and catch up with friends.
Grownups are a rarity around here.

I’m from Chicago.

It's lovely round Parbold. Used to head up to top of the hill to photograph sunsets from there, and occasionally caught sight of Bradley Wiggins out on his rides. I was a night manager at Charnock Richard on the M6 for a while.

Yeah... Toledo (unfortunately).

Every time I go back to visit, it looks post-apocalyptic.

I can imagine. I delivered pizza one summer many years ago for Pat Giamarco's pizza chain, in Sylvania

Cedar Point still a thing?
