Hello, I'm Jim

Hi there!

I'm Jim, and I live in Scotland. Between 1999 & 2000 I lived and worked in Zürich - for a large financial institution. I'm considering moving back in 2021.

I have been a software engineer and have over 25 years commercial experience but have also worked at board-level and conducted business and technical consultancy. More recently, I've become a film-maker and film-lecturer and as well as producing educational films for a local university, I make my own feature-length documentaries and short art films.

I thought I'd sign up here, say hello, read, and start making new connections. I'm heartened to see this active forum of discussion and that people are helping each other so much.

Please come and say hello!

Jim

Welcome to the forum.

The first thing you need to know as a new non-EU national as of 1st January is that any employment here will fall under the non-EU hiring criteria. There are limits on the number of permits granted to non-EU's every year and both employers and you have to meet certain criteria before you'd be able to be hired. It's all outlined here.

Hello!

Creating documentaries sounds very interesting as well as art films.

You may know about this already, but there is a film festival here in Zurich each year. Perhaps you could submit something sometime.

"The festival's main focus is to promote emerging filmmakers from all over the world."

Hi, and welcome to the forum!

I hope you find some good connections in terms of work and accommodation so you can get back into the country.

Thank you for the link. I was aware of the new situation, but not in any real detail. I can only hope that my skills, experience, charm, and the luck of the draw will help my mission

Hello Pancakes and thank you!

I'll check out the festival and see if I qualify as an emerging filmmaker. I would be keen to make contact with local filmmakers in Zürich, so perhaps contacting the festival would be a useful route to help achieve that.

Thanks again for your welcoming message

Jim
