Positive post for newcomers!

Hello everyone,
I only recently came on to here, i never thought to post before as everything was so busy with a new language etc...
There seems to be a lot of difficult starts for some people and a lot of judgement from others so i wanted to share a positive and exciting story from someone who is not coming from an academic background or has suisse relatives.

I am an artist and fell in love with a suisse guy. I decided to put all i had in to learning french to find my life here and have been solidly painting every day since just before Covid. I am completely self taught in most things and yes its been hard.. but very rewarding
To those who came with nothing but life experiences and the wisdom that naturally comes with that dont give up! Start from the bottom and work your way to where you want to be.
I know its expensive here. I basically took anything i could to help pay bills once i arrived, i worked hard as a cleaner in a tattoo studio, i looked after animals, i started to teach English and drawing to kids.. just keep active, knock on doors, face to face is better (unfort with a mask these days)

And now i will be going to an art school in Geneva. Very exciting but i worked very hard for it. I saved up and lived minimally for these last two years.
It can be tough here but shouldn’t we all be encouraging one another instead of feeding negativity on here? I read a few other peoples stories of trying to find a life here and some people were so encouraging but others were really judgemental.

I love my life here, i love suisse people and i love speaking french.
I came across some suisse people who dont like foreigners, just like in my home in scotland. But dont let this bother you! They are like that because they never met anyone like you! If people are mean to you or rude it is generally because they are not happy.

Be curious about people, we are all different and there is no straight path.. there are no rules, just be humble and be realistic. Any job even cleaning is an experience and opportunity to practice the language and meet people

Its not about ‘positive thinking’ its about focus and acceptance

Welcome to Romandie, SamanthaH!

Sea and the occasional Atlantic lashing aside, your new home has plenty to offer for a Scots landscape-wise.

Other than whisky (if you are into that), is there anything you miss?

Count on some EFer to know where to find it. :Wink
