Hi there! Moving from Sweden to Zurich in the near future.

Hi there!

My name is Kristoffer, I'm 29 years old and I'm moving to Zurich in the near future since I got a job there.

I joined this forum as I'll be moving alone, and am hoping to learn more about socializing in Zurich and in general about Switzerland!

I'll most likely be moving in January, but can move earlier (depends on the pandemic).

How would you guys say the current social climate is considering Covid?

And would you wait with moving or is it pretty much back to normal now? I am mainly asking as I don't want to move, just to be locked up by myself in an apartment and unable to take part of the city and social life!

If you are vaccinated twice, pretty much everything is open to you. If not, you need negative tests for anything indoors: restaurants, cinemas, museums, sports centres, even libraries...no one knows what will happen by January.

Re: Hi there! Moving from Sweden to Zurich in the near future.

Switzerland never had a restrictive lockdown like the UK or Italy, so from that perspective you have nothing to worry about. The current situation is that for indoor recreational activities (restaurants, fitness, cinemas...) you need a certificate. The Swiss certificates follow the same rules as the EU ones; if you have one from the EU it is valid in Switzerland. We don't know what the future brings but based on the past there is nothing to prevent you from arriving whenever you decide. Zurich is a pretty good place to live and work.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Depends who you ask. It is certainly polarized [both the topic and the climate]. My personal perception is that it became better with all the personal space and reduced filthiness of some social activities of the past.

Sports and outdoor activities are back even more than before. And you don't have to explain to your friends, why it would be insensitive towards others to come to a social event while sneezing and coughing, or why you mind anyone coming in an arm's reach of your face.
But if are you up to nightlife events and large and random crowds, than it is far from being back in full. There are some partying going on, and if you'll compare it to a Götland ferry, than it will pretty much equal that in total amount of people involved per night. Restaurants, museums and most other elements of daytime social life are open for sufficiently vaccinated from COVID-19 with an approved vaccine or otherwise immune or cleared for the entrance.

Re: Hi there! Moving from Sweden to Zurich in the near future.

Was out in zch over the weekend. Lots of people out and about in the evening. Streets and outdoor seating at cafes, bars, etc. was packed and at a premium. Quite a lot of people gathering on the streets and parks. Weather was perfect. Went to one cinema, basically empty. So I surmise that it's pretty good right now while the weather holds but there is still quite reluctance for the indoor stuff during this certifate two tier society phenomenon we have at the moment.

Damn! A Swede who wants to talk about the Covid situation in Switzerland - you should have joined us here a year ago. Now it is all very tame and behaved, Swedish almost.

I was talking about the forum. I don't see us going back to any hard restrictions, but if you are unvaxxed it might get annoying.

Re: Hi there! Moving from Sweden to Zurich in the near future.

most noticeable difference now between Zurich and Stockholm is the requirement for masks in stores/on public transport/public offices etc. and to show a Covid certificate when entering restaurants and bars/cinemas and theatres etc.

Buy a box of masks and you’ll be fine.

My experience of being out in both cities based on last weekend in Stockholm, Zurich this weekend was essentially no different than pre-pandemic. 20c and sun helped

I'm sure I'll take you up on that offer!
As it looks right now, I will most likely move in January (but might be earlier) so might take a while though, haha!
