Hello again.
If you put through a 'Search' on the EF for posts with 'South Africa' in them, you will come up with a couple of names of other SA folk. Or you could try searching for a couple of typical South African delicacies - someone will have probably been asking where one can buy them from or saying that they miss them! Good Luck with the Search.

x | | | | | There are indeed a large number of saffa's here in Switzerland and given that you will be in Zürich it should be no problem meeting up with a large group.
You can normally find the usual suspects out for a rugby match at the Paddy Reillys and a small sub-set who may frequent the Oliver Twist (pickwicks).
In addition there is a South African club of Switzerland which i have never engaged in but think is still operation.
All in all, no need to get nervous, there have recently been a few new young arrivals who are starting out here in Zürich and we'll be happy to put you in touch.

I can appreciate that you like the idea of being able to meet up with other folk from SA - most of us enjoy chatting to people from a similar background - but there are other folk here who are quite nice and helpful too. You might find you get on with them just as happily. |

Why not first get here, meet the people and then decide if you'd like to get involved?
Good luck with the move.

Hi Mienx,I'm also from good old SA..Cape Town.I bet you'll miss SA..I do
even after six years in Zürich but at least I visit regularly.I wish you
well for your new 'adventure'..I am sure you'll settle in..just give it time..
good thing about Switzerland is that it's right in the centre of Europe and
a great base for travelling.Always remember, the world is a small place and
you're only a call/email/text message away from your family and friends in SA..and if your longing becomes too great, hop on a plane and head home.
Surprised to hear that the SA club is no more.

Hey Mienx!
I am from sunny and warm Durban! I have been living in Zürich for the past few months, after living in London for 2years. I started my studies here and enjoy it alot, it's a really nice country and you will settle in well. You will miss home at first but eventually you just get used to it and you can always keep in touch with skype and e-mail.
Goodluck!

Welcome to the EF Mienx. It will be lekker to meet other people who have decided to go Switzerland bound. On the contrary I cannot wait to spend my holidays in SA soon again. I am excited especially after being away from sunny SA for entire year.
I am pretty sure you will eventually find it cosy and accommodating although it might take some time. Good luck with your moving |

South Africans! Excellent! We're moving to Morges/Lausanne end November from good ol' P-town.
Nice to see there are a few Saffas in CH!
Any tips on what to bring from home....?

Ex-Midrander, here since April. Get homesick but not enough to want to go back. I met A LOT of South Africans through our church in Zürich (International Protestant Church of Zurich).

Hi there!
I am also from SA and impressed at how many people have replied to your post. ARe you already in Switzerland, how you finding it? Have you managed to meet a few other South Africans or arranged an event. I would love to get to know everyone else too! Are you living in Zurich? I am doing my studies here at the moment but was previously living in Lausanne for a few months. I really love Switzerland... good times are great but unfortunately bad times are worse without your loved ones around... I guess these things take time.
Hope you find a minute to reply!
Have a great Monday!
Tess
