Carmen in Langnau am Albis (ZH)

Hi everyone:-)

My name is Carmen Crenshaw-Hovey and I live in Langnau am Albis ZH.
My husband Bill (Lake Placid, NY) and I (Houston, TX) are both
from the US. We have two sons, Sam 10 & Aleksander 6.
Bill teaches Middle School History at the Zurich International
School in Horgen ZH and I am the SAHM Family Life Manager:-)

Our son Aleksander is in our local Swiss Kindergarten. Our older
son Sam is in 4th grade in the Steiner-Waldorf school in Adliswil ZH.
They both speak Swiss German with their friends, learn/speak
High German in the classroom and speak English at home.

We are all US citizens but moved here in August of 2001 after
4 years of living in Stavanger, Norway where Aleksander was
born - Sam was born in Portsmouth, NH, USA. Bill and I met in
August 1992 while working in Leysin in the Canton of Vaud.
We are very happy to be back in our beloved Switzerland!

Hi Carmen,

Thanks for stopping by. It's an honour to have such an active moderator from other groups pop in and say hello. I hope you feel at home, and once more messages starting flowing in here you'd be welcome to do some moderating here as well.

Since you are active on mailing list I thought I'd ask you - how do you think the entire "forum experience" compares with the "mailing list" experience? I've personally always got ticked off with mailing lists because they are constantly flowing into my inbox, and I get enough email as it is! I like the way that I can subscribe to specific threads on a forum, and ignore others. Also there are nice little features like rating threads, user profiles, pictures, polls etc.

But then again - maybe I am just a bit biased . However having fast internet access makes using a forum such as this much easier!

What are your thoughts on it? Do you think web based (and email enabled) forums will eventually replace email-only lists? I realise that forums aren't everyone's cup of tea, but I was gambling on the fact that there are other users who felt like I did about lists.

Mark

Forums are much better IMO.....I am actually on the expats-zurich list but only get my dosage at the website. I get enough email anyway and my spam filter is set to murderously high levels

Re: Carmen in Langnau am Albis (ZH)

I subscribed to one or two of those expats newsgroups, but I found that unless you had it as a single daily digest email, it was way too much spam.

It also seemed to contain millions of automated "Welcome to the group <Insert Name> from <Insert Location> !!!" I got a little sick of those.

Hi carmen,

I was adviced by a friend to get my small internet company listed in one of your yahoogroups- the expat resource site. I would like to do that but how do I go about? hope you can answer me asap.

Have a wonderful weekend!
