G'day to you all!! Another Kiwi here,,,,,

This is a belated introduction, as I have been aware of this site for about a month now... Unfortunately, just as I was registering etc, my computer went all wonky (confess,, I may have had a slight hand in the matter!!

Suffice to say, after a considerable amount of brain drain, desparation, confusion, not to mention the gnashing of teeth and hair pulling (sometimes, , I really do hate blasted computers!!)
I am now ready and able to put forth, my two pennies worth, phew!! Myself? been here for the last 17 years now. Came here, got married, had (still do have) two lovely girlies,,,15 and 12 yrs old, I'm now separated but it's not too bad.
In a nutshell, just muddling along over here for now.
Just want to say(before I muck up the compy again) the bits I saw on first discovering this site, looked really inviting and friendly. I look forward to picking up the odd hint and perhaps, even passing one or two on myself...
So, from me to you, have a great rest of the weekend and even, if I'm not getting ahead of myself here,,, a great Easter!!
God willing, I'll be back again before soon. Care now, Delph....

Re: G'day to you all!! Another Kiwi here,,,,,

Hi Delphinium Blue, nice to meet you online! 17 years is sure a long time. Do you manage to get home occassionally? Were your daughters born here? We shifted here in 98, before that we lived in Picton and the beautiful Marlborough sounds was our playground, I really miss the ocean, the mediterrean just doesn`t compare to the Pacific or the Tasman ( for me) and of course fresh crays in kaikoura, rock oysters, greenlip marinated or smoked mussels yumm!!Better change the subject I`m making myself hungry here. Where are you from in N.Z.? I guess your speaking fluent Swiss after so long here.Every April I go to Bern for a course but this year the course dates clash with my Job, I bought this up because you wrote in your post that your separated. The firm I work for Reka offer Solo mum weeks ( for you and your kids) for Sfr.100- all incl. My part of the offer is running a separate entertainment programme for the kids, anyway if you would like more information on this, post me, O.K. time to put the Sunday roast on, some habits never die, keep well, regards Kap

Second attempt to respond to the warm welcomes!! Nice!! Think I've got it sussed out now,,, forgive my lack of savvy. I am a self taught person who didn't list en to her teacher, when it came to learning about computers....
I shall keep this brief, for fear of losing this message as well. Big thanks, shall catch up with you all, I am sure at some later date. I wrote a whole lot of other stuff the other day but, as often happens with me,, it just went to ether!!! I have had my pout/sulk, am now ready and able to get back on board again. One thing tho, before I pop off again,, please bear with me, I do make the most abominable errors, when it comes to computers,,,oddly enough, I am better at fixing the problems than not doing them in the first place?! Oh man, hope this works....

Hi again Delphininum Blue, looks like your getting that computer on your side!! My kids are downloading from so many sites that carry viriuses that I`ll end up throwing the modem away like the last one and buying a new one again, all of a sudden this one just turns off, oh well, got this message away anyway, keep well regards kap

Re: G'day to you all!! Another Kiwi here,,,,,

Kap, Hi!! God Girl,,, you brought water to my eye !! Plus,, I am such a poor copy of a Kiwi..... I just can't get those seafood things down! esp oysters, ullp!! I have tried so hard, the family all love it and when we got hold of such goodies,, it was always such a big deal... My Mum always cooked them up marvellously, t'was only me that couldn't eat them, much to my own disgust!! Odd thing is, I have these wandering "hankerings for Scallops" esp now, when they are not even readily available....? AHH well, never mind....

Hey,,,,, you work for Reka!! thats so amazing,,, meaning,,, I have been aware of Reka for the longest time over here... Just never thought very closely about it. What you said earlier, re; as a solo Mum et, has given me much food for thought.. Yes please, do tell me more about it. We don't get home very often (I imagine you may be in a similar situation). Not just the expense if it all but the timing as well. Do you get back very often? Oh dear, not easy when we are on the other side of the world... We couldn't have picked anywhere much further away from home, could we?! Any further, and you are already on your way back home, I always say. As far as the beach goes, well,,, we were just spoilt there really, was living in Nelson/Golden Bay area on and off for the 8-8 years or so, before coming over here. The Med sea has it's charms, yes! but as you said, the pacific etc just doesn't compare. Esp as we didn't have to have our passports just to go there!! It may seem exotic to the relly's back home, when we send our postcards from Italy,France or Greece,,,,,,, but forget not, we had to travel ages to get there and travelled distances unneccessary when in N.Z.. So spoilt we were.Makes one appreciate so much more, what a great place N.Z is. Okey dokey, shal finish for the mo now... Yep, seem to have found the better side of the compy for now... Hands up tho,,, I can't even blame the kids,,, I know darn well it's all my doing,,,fiddly finger syndrome I guess you could call it!!

Any way,,,at your leisure m'dear, will be very grateful to hear more about what you do,,,plus, that brilliant holiday scheme,,, I think we could do with a holiday again,,,it's been a while.

Cheers,

Delph

Re: G'day to you all!! Another Kiwi here,,,,,

Hi delphinium Blue, thanks for your post. Shame on you! can`t swallow an oyster! what about whitebait patties? paua patties?trevally? o.k. enough seafood talk, it`s one of the main things I miss about N.Z.( most people would say what they miss the most is family and friends), not me though,
kina, sqid rings, shark steaks, groper, blue cod...jeez I`m away again. Change of subject (by the way took me ages to find out the german for scallops, you probably already know it, St. Jakobs muschel.Occassionaly I`ve seen them in Manor for sale). So yes I work for Reka and this solo mum week is a great thing, I`m going to assume that your german is pretty good and direct you to the Reka website(click on soziale),http://www.reka.ch/d/reka/mamma_hat_vortritt.asp. You`re too late to book in for the spring hols, but you should be able to get in for the autumn hols,I run the Pany kids programme. I don`t think you can choose between the three reka villages that offer the programme, but a insider tip Pany is the best!! This year I`m going to spilt the teenagers from the group give them two full time kids club workers ,a video camera and the theme hidden camera, I`m really looking forward to it: You asked if I get home much, well no, I don`t, last time was 2 years ago... my problem is we breed and train shepherd dogs(N.Z. short-hair collies)at the moment we have 14 soo either my husband goes away for hols or I go away for hols but never together as we don`t have anyone that we can get to look after THE DOGS.So you lived in Nelson golden bay my favourite place in the whole world in fact will probably retire there, Takaka, or out towards the spitz...I can`t imagine retiring here!! Having said that I really like living and working in Switzerland.O.k. delphinium time for me to sign off Starting to ramble now, do check out the reka website, any questions feel free to post me, have a nice sunday..regards kap

I still don't quite figure how all the options on here work, so shall continue as if I actually do. Yes,,, shame on me!! I should probably hang up my badge right now I s'pose... Oh, Kap, thank you ever so much for that link, I looked and it sounds good,,, only I think I/we don't quite qualify per se... Financially,I would have to say we are in a "too" fortunate situation regards to this offer, as well, just from how I understood it,(correct me please if I'm wrong) as my oldest girl is 15, this would, I think put her out of the running for the deal altogether,,,or not?? My German is not too too bad, can usually nut out the main points, esp those that are relevant to my situation, still, am always pleased, if someone shows me the error of my ways. Matter of fact, that's not even the main reason why I write just now. I seem to be reading the same things as you and I have seen some of your replies, which is building this picture up for me.... You are here, farming (I think you said 50 cows?) five kids, you work for Reka in the winter, and now you've just told me you have 14 pooches that you are training and breeding!!! What I want to know is,,when do you find time to sleep??? I guess I have definitely done myself a huge disservice by not having fortified myself in the earlier years, with more of those slimey (like great big boogers they were for me,,, sorry ) oysters and such-like... Or,,, do you have another secret source, of energy?
something along the lines of Kryptonite??? (isn't that what Superman always had, to sustain his supers powers??)

Now I just have to "snap" to the last part of your post.

Just want to say as well, IF you ever get the chance, 1st April notwithstanding, to pass thru our area at all and need/would like a place to stay, do say something....!!
For myself, I would be delighted to have the chance to swap notes.

Coming of good ole farming stock from N.Z and, when I first came here, the chance to experience 'farming' in a totally different way here,,, I am brimming with ???? You have no idea...!! Sooo many things I would love to ask.
Of course we could/can mail each other but that can be limiting... I reackon there could be an excellent evening to be had,,just say the word... That is an open invitation by the way and if ,,may it please the Gods, hubby can come along too,, well , that would be brilliant! ! That could be makings of a very fine "do" don't ya think?! Just let me know if this might eventuate

Just a shame I don't live a bit closer,,, I'd happily look after all your "Mollies and Gyps" for you,, so you can both go for a holiday together for once. And as long as you have machines for the milking, then hey,, easy peasy... I can of course milk by hand, but 50 cows by hand, just me?!,,, well,, I don't need to tell you....

I'd better stop now, the compy will start complaining in a minute,,look forward to hearing what you may think of this idea. Care now,
Ros

Re: G'day to you all!! Another Kiwi here,,,,,

Seems I am another Kiwi alergic to shellfish

Also a farmers daughter, and have lived in Nelson.

Also divorced and decided to stay on, I love the proximity to the rest of Europe, New Zealand, while beautiful is just too far away for me.

However, I have a question for you guys. I am looking at registering a charitable Trust in New Zealand, just too dammed expensive here and my German is not good enough for all the legal paperwork (...ok too much information)

Does anyone know of a good accountant in New Zealand?

Warmly,

Krissy

Re: G'day to you all!! Another Kiwi here,,,,,

Thanks Kep,

She sounds wonderful, but I really need someone who is living in and has
a well known and respected Accountancy firm in New Zealand.

There will be a lot of ongoing work involved. This is going to be a huge
project along the lines of the TED conferences, but with a much stronger
charitable link.

Maybe she knows someone who would fit the bill?

Warmly,

Krissy

Hi from a kiwi in Berne. From Taupo, via Australia, Canada, U.S., England, Ireland, Italy and now 27 years in Switzerland. Mail me to find what is happening in Berne, whenever you would like to come here - g.tritt@gmx.net - or see http://berne.carrick.ch or http://www.living-in-berne.ch/ How about a Barbie in the Oberland in July or in Estaveyer in August? Re: G'day to you all!! Another Kiwi here,,,,,

Hi, a Scottish friend Angus runs berne.carrick.ch,
but I am on the editing board of www.living-in-switzerland.ch
and have founded www.swissenglish.ch. I spend more
time running mailng lists - of which swisscc for Berne residents,
swissenglish for English teachers, and various toastmasters
lists are the main ones.

Is someone keeping a list of kiwis here,
perhaps with www.nzclub.ch. ?
I just passed on this job to a kiwi Rachel Lord in
Berne, must tell her about this forum.
