Hmm, first week in Basel!

Hellloo all! The first week of my life in Switzerland (Basel) is over; left me with mixed feelings - running around for an apartment and then for furniture, hot sultry rainy days, beautiful Rhein walks and unending glory of museums and architecture!
Now that I am settling down, I need ENGLISH NOVELS to read..Anyone in Basel can suggest me what I should do- I surely do not wish to buy books! Also, I need a faghag!!

There are a few book stores in town that have departments devoted to books in English, the two I've been to most often are Thalia and Bider & Tanner.

I am less familiar with Bider & Tanner but I can say that I've spoken to sales associates at Thalia and if there is a book you'd like and they don't have in stock they will order it for you. I *believe* Bider & Tanner does also as I think that's where hubby acquired a book for me while I was in the hospital but I am not really positive.

Meanwhile, welcome to Basel!

Excellent intro GayBoy, I'm not being mean but its just the tone of your last phrase there which triggered an outburst in me ...

What kind of English novels are you after?
And of course a big welcome to you

If you join up at Centrepoint - http://www.centrepoint.ch/pro/index.html - they have a library with plenty of books in English to borrow.

Re: Hmm, first week in Basel!

I would totally say to just buy your books on amazon.ch

It's way too expensive to buy books in Basel, or anywhere in Switzerland, especially in English!

That's where I get all my books. I got my new books satc, brigest jones and one fifth ave. all the next week for less than 20 chf.

Re: Hmm, first week in Basel!

I've got a couple of Migros bags of books that I'm selling.

http://www.englishforum.ch/sale-want...oks-basel.html

The deal fell through from January, and I've not had a chance to get selling them again. I've now got two bags, the second has 19 in it (haven't priced it yet). Let me know if you're interested

Oh, and welcome to Basel!

Re: Hmm, first week in Basel!

I'll be having my first week in Basel in just over two weeks time. I haven't found an apartment yet but will be staying at a hotel till I find one. I love reading so if you find somewhere let me know.
