Moving to Biel Area

Hello!

My name is Lauren and I'm a 22 year-old American moving from Indianapolis, the capitol of racing, to the area of Biel, land of forbidden racing! I recently finished with university and decided to seize the opportunity to learn German, better my French, and experience all that Switzerland has to offer.

I love racing, sports, the outdoors, fashion, history, politics, and just plain old having a good time with good people. I am always looking to meet new people and make new friends.

Re: Moving to Biel Area

Hi and welcome!

Biel is the perfect place to learn both languages. Both are spoken, though Swiss German is more common. In my opinion Biel/Bienne is a kind of hidden treasure; it's large enough that there's stuff to do, it's on a lake, and it's fairly central so it's not a huge undertaking to go to Zurich or Geneva, or anywhere in between. Rents are reasonable and it's a nice laid back city.

Good luck!

Re: Moving to Biel Area

WOWEE, a few years ago i already started such a thing once, to attract younger people but i failed miserably...............why go to a clubroom for a drink when one can hit the 'real' clubs/bars etc.

The mummy meetings i organised fared better, but my kids are teenagers now so the toddler scene is not my priority right now.

Ok i can offer the following....as soon as we ( e.g. all those interested) agree on a date, we can either meet at the clubroom in town or at my home close to the city. I could prepare a bite to eat at either place and have drinks on standby and thus people can get to know each other in a relaxed athmosphere and then take it from there : ) kind of like a networking event minus the business side of it

So what do you think of that?

Re: Moving to Biel Area

Sounds good

My husband (also a 21 year old Australian) who also needs to meet people will most likely come too! We sometimes go to Zürich on the weekends, but in general we are free all weeknights and on weekends. Myself - I am usually free all day too (:S I really need to find a job)

Re: Moving to Biel Area

I would love to meet up somewhere in Biel/Bienne. I think that would be the easiest in case some people have to rely on public transportation (like me!)

Anyone else from America wishing they were celebrating Halloween on Saturday?

Re: Moving to Biel Area

Hey guys, cool I found this - I've been in Biel for like 5 months now. I'm a 25 year old guy from London

I'm working here and I'm finding it tricky with the language and all just to go out and have fun. Just got back from London from Xmas break so if any of you want to catch up, PM me or something - I live right in the centre of Biel

Re: Moving to Biel Area

I wish I had got this thread before I placed my 'introduction' thread titled 'Only one in Biel/Bienne?', there's loads! I'd be up for an english speaking night out, was there anything arranged?

I've been living and working in CH for over three years now and work with two other guys from the UK and know very few more...
