New In Morges

Hi Everyone

My name is Jo, and my husband Simon & I moved to Morges last December. We are British but had been living in the USA for 5 years prior to our reclocation to Switzerland.

In amongst a huge move accross the world we were also expecting our first child, and Edward was born in Morges Hospital March 13th. We also relocated our 2 crazy dogs Schnu (our Schauzer) & Thierry (our Cockerpoo) who were a bit dazed a confused by the Swiss snow at first, atfer living in the heat of LA, but they now seem to be very happy here.

My French is terrible (basically non existant I am ashamed to say ) so comunicating with the locals has been a HUGE challenge for me.

I think I am still shell shocked from our move especially coming from a country like the US that is open 24/7 and is in your face to a very tradional & value orientated country like switzerland.

I am gradually getting used to my new life but NEED FRIENDS so if any one out there is looking to hang out with a nice, friendly, fun (if not a little crazy) Brit and the very gorgeous baby Ed, then please be in contact.

Looking forward to getting my head around this forum and meeting some new people.

Jo

Re: New In Morges

Welcome to the Forum I'm not too sure about events in Morges itself, but the events calendar may have something of interest on there. Also, there are others in your neck of the woods, so you could always organise a coffee morning in a local cafe yourself. Follow the calendar icons should you chose. The worst that could happen is there are no takers, so simply postpone and keep at it until you've a little collective!

Re: New In Morges

Hi Jo Jo

Welcome to Morges and Switzerland. I know how you must be feeling as my wife and I moved to Echandens (tiny village near Morges) having lived in London for 7 years at the beginning of this year and it is a culture shock but one you get used to in a good way very soon. We are also expecting our first child to be born middle of next month in the Morges hospital. You may be interested to know that there is a gathering of mums in the Starbucks in St Laurent opposite Co op City in Lausanne every two weeks at 11am (the last one was yesterday). My wife attends so you can message Acorn to ask her for more details. There are quite a few Brits in the area given all the international companies such as Yahoo, PMI and others.

Re: New In Morges

Check out the social events subforum, there's one outing in Lausanne tomorrow night if you urgently need to get speaking English with other EF members face to face.

Re: New In Morges

Hi Jo.
I'm DJC's wife and have sent you the details of the coffee morning by private message, but the basics are: We meet at the back of Starbucks every second Tuesday (3 Nov is the next one) from 11am and all mums and mums to be are very welcome. I've been going along for the last 8 months since we moved to the Lausanne area and have made some great friends as a result. It's also an invaluable way to exchange advice and info about services and things to do with kids in the local area.
Hope to see you there soon.

Re: New In Morges

Hello,
I'm quite new in Swiss and expecting to deliver my baby very soon.
Happy to see that English speaking mums are gathering in Lausanne and hope that it still continues?

As so often happens on here, the OP hasn't been around since she wrote her first posts. Maybe she'll stick her head round the door again sometime but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Re: New In Morges

Hi everyone

unfortunately since my first post I have been seriously ill. I have been struck down with a rare neurological disorder that has left me partially disabled. My life has been turned upside down & I have been using any energy that I have to get day care for my little baby boy as well as the specialized medical care that I need. I am very proud if myself as I now have a fantastic doctor, a pain ocupational therapist at the hospital in Morges who I see weekly. I also see a Pain Specialist there too (a professor, the best in the area!). The Red Cross take me to all my appointments & take care of my son if he is unwell (& my hubby is crazy busy at work) or if my husband us away. I have a home help that comes to help me clean & a nurse that I see at home too (he is English & really nice!). I have an accupuncturist here in Morges and I am also trying hypnotherapy weekly too. Not bad for someone who is in constant chronic pain, who collapse at will (in hedges, migros you name it.....) & who doesn't speak French! I have met some wonderful people who go out of there way to help me.

I had 2 private messages from 2 different women who had moved over & seen my profile on this site asking me if I would like to meet up. I replied and said yes to both but explained I was ill but they were welcome in my home for coffee. You know what? They never replied so my already crushed confidence
nose dived completely & I haven't looked at this site since. I had a private msg yesterday from someone and I've been doing better so I thought "what the heck reply....you can do it girlie!" then I look at this write up from a stranger basically saying I buggered off after my first post. This msg is for you: you have no idea what goes on in other peoples lives. It's stuff like this that puts me off a forum like this as, I have managed finding what I need on my own, without flakes who don't reply and people who are rude about me!!

Re: New In Morges

OK! Venting over with. I'm a little sensitive these days (you may have guessed!!) but feel better for that....thank you!

Sabina, I sent you a private msg earlier today. I swear I'm not a loony & I don't normally go off on one like that. I am a calm & cheery person x x
