Only one in Biel/Bienne?

Hello all, My name is Johnathan and just about to hit 31 years old, I've been in Switzerland for over three years now and have come to the realisation I'm staying here, that is with my Swiss wife and two awesome children (Two and a half years and the other is just six months)

I am long distance running, graphic designing, person who likes a drink with friends (although there has been less of that with the kids). I'm looking to meet other runners and other parents with similar aged kids... Or anyone else interesting!!

Currently we are in Bienne, but we are frequently about the canton Neuchatel, sometimes in Lausanne, Yverdon and I work in the canton of Solothurn...

Re: Only one in Biel/Bienne?

I'm in Biel!!! But am not a runner (farrrr farrrr from it, probably the most unfit person you could ever meet) and also not a parent :S or someone interesting either haha (Ive done nothinggg since I've been here).

But still.. youre not alone in Biel! If you or your children ever take up horse riding let me know.....

Hooray, thanks lucy, nice to know one's not alone, you didn't fulfill any of the criteria but you seem interesting enough anyway... As for the horse riding, I once rode a horse when I was little and the damn thing bolted, never been on one since, freaked me out that horse did, but there are no scars or fear of horses to speak of... Quite sure my daughter will like the idea later on though...

Re: Only one in Biel/Bienne?

Hello Jonathan and Lucy,

I'm in Biel too !

I'm hardly a runner, (though you never know how things could develop), I am not a parent as far as I know, and I'm not going to say that I'm interesting, but I'm not going to say that I'm not interesting either !

Am here usually Mon to Thu, with variable timetable.

I very much like the idea of horse-riding, but only did it once on holiday in Ireland when I was about 8 or so.

I'd be happy to meet up for a drink some time if either of you like the idea.

best,
Gregory

Lucy - If you have some spare time I have a 1 year old and a 4 year old that would LOVE to pet the horses and feed them! My 1 year old daughter really really loves animals. Let me know if you are up for this...

Jon Jon, We are not in Biel but we are in Solothurn, that is close and therefore counts right?

Helloo
Regarding the horse comments....... if I was in Australia, where all my equine friends are located, I would be delighted to let either of you (and your children) spend as much time with my big reliable softy (Rumba) as you like! But unfortunately here the best I can do is meet people interested in riding and go on one of those trail rides you have to pay for or something. Sorry if my comment was misleading!

ibis21 - I love Solothurn! I think its so so pretty and I always make my friends come look at it with me when they visit. If you can find someone near you who has horses and doesnt mind people coming and giving them carrots or something I would gladly take your children for a walk to visit them. I have a lot of free time/spend a lot of time alone doing nothing, so the contact with kids and horses would be really great for me too!
I should also just add though that I am in the frantic stages of deciding whether or not to go back to Australia to study or not.. so I can't guarantee I'll be around for that long.... but I hope I will be!!!!! I really don't want to leave! Just not sure what is the right thing for me to do errrrrrrr!!

eggtenor - as long as I'm still here, a drink sometime would be cool. I'm sure my (English speaking/Australian) partner would love to come.. as he needs friends and a life too! (jonjon you are of course invited too!!)

Re: Only one in Biel/Bienne?

Lucy, with pleasure. Am going away on Thursday morning, but will be around next Thursday (28th), and then again on Mon 1st till 15h on Tue 2nd. Also 6th to 8th Feb. If you're bored, I can get you guys into the Biel Theatre very cheaply. Plays are only in Deutsch, but operas or operettes can be in French or Italian, and usually have French subtitles, if that helps. 'Der Graf von Luxemburg', at the moment, is quite fun, and you could always read up on the plot in English before coming. It's more like a musical comedy, waltzes and that, from early 20th century. Hope you don't find the idea deathly boring; people tend to have a fun time.

By the way, have you been up on Mont Sujet, on the next peak behind Magglingen / Macolin ? There are lovely horses grazing up there, (don't know if horses stay out in snow), and you can travel on the bus to Près d'Orvin (for the price of a bus-journey within Biel itself) to start your walk. The view of the Alps is obviously amazing (even better than from Magglingen, where the funiculaire goes. Got a great view from there yesterday), but I'm sure you've seen it already, at least from said Magglingen.

Just let me know if you'd like to meet up.

All sounds great By the 28th I should have decided if I am staying or not..... so I'll write back to you then

Re: Only one in Biel/Bienne?

Bah, I should keep up with this thread! I haven't been ignoring the responses promise! A drink sounds good, I'll be somewhere else drinking on the 28th but I'll have a look at my diary and check with my PA (my wife) and see what nights we have available...

Re: Only one in Biel/Bienne?

Hi ibis21, yes Solothurn definitely qualifies you, and Lucy is very right I visited Solothurn for the first time just a few months ago and was so impressed that such a good looking town was just up the road.

Hi eggtenor, I might get by with a french opera, does German opera sound okay? Swiss German opera?!?

Lucy, If you run off to Australia to study, I hope it goes well for you, if not we should all hook up for a drink, Eggtenor suggested 6-8 Feb, our diary here is good for then if you're still in the country?

Ibis21 and Eggtenor - does the 6-8th sound good to you for a drink?

Re: Only one in Biel/Bienne?

Hi Jonjon and Lucy,

I'm really sorry about this, it's a bit rubbish, but I have been without Internet since the end of January, due to a mix-up. Thus I've only just managed to check the forum and see your messages. Yes, I am here tomorrow until about 5pm, so if you happen to reply to this message between now and then, I can still meet up (should be able to get online tomorrow). If not, I shall be here a good deal more as of this Saturday (13th), so we can definitely arrange something.

Sorry again guys !!!

Re: Only one in Biel/Bienne?

Hi aout07 and swisshippo, nice to meet you both, turns out there's quite a community in hiding around here!!

Who is up for a drink this Saturday (eggtenor's suggested date of a good pre-valentine 13th), sorry I missed my own deadline for last weekend, I've had a tricky week?

Lucy, sorry I didn't get back to you faster... I'll IM everyone in this post to see who fancies a meet up this weekend, are you around?

I haven't managed to explore Bienne much, where's an interesting place to meet?

Re: Only one in Biel/Bienne?

Hey Raaabert, rough news about your leg, if it's any comfort I fractured my elbow on my drinking arm this winter! quickly learnt how to carry on with the left arm though! I'm going to organise another meet up for a few weeks from now, I hope you'll be mended enough to come join us...

That's an open invitation to all by the way... are there any weekends coming up in which people definitely cannot make a meet up?

Re: Only one in Biel/Bienne?

Hi Jonjon -- and all you others in and around Biel,
I'm Eva, Australian/Swiss, 34 yrs old (ok, almost 35), living in Biel since 2000, mother to Corvin (23 months) and sibling due in May/June this year.
If you guys do organise a meet-up sometime, I would be interested in maybe joining you if I can.
Am particularly interested in getting in touch with English speaking parents, since I'm not exposing Corvin to enough English at the moment.
Take care,
Eva
