Hello from England!

Hello everyone!

I am moving to Lausanne with a company I work for in July. I am moving out with my girlfriend (getting married in June) and she will be taking a career break for 12 months to make sure she settles in to life in Switzerland. If we don't then that is our fall back plan.

She is worried about getting a job in Switzerland, is it that hard for an English person with Degree and 7 years marketing experience?

I am looking for an apartment to stay in at the moment so if anyone knows of sites other than the usual where I can look this would be great.

Is Bourdennette a good area to stay. Ideally I want to rent a brand new apartment or no older than 2 years from being built.

Thanks guys and speak soon!!!!

Re: Hello from England!

I would suggest that during the 12 months she learns as much German as she can, that will make finding work a lot easier.
There are a lot of companies that have their official working language as English, there are some threads on this forum listing them, but around Lausanne I'm not sure there are that many, most companies are based around Basle and Zurich.

On the apartment thing, I'm guessing you want 2 years from built because that makes it fresh and new. However in my experience of looking at places in Zurich, most of the flats have been of a very high standard, and some of the older places are amazing in side.
Flat hunting can take a while, and the choices are limited, I'd consider ditching the 2 year thing, but I'm sure someone from the Lausanne area will tell you more about the place.

would suggest that your wife learns French as you are in Lausanne, it also gives her a wide spread across all of Swiss Romande (French speaking part). Geneva is only 30 mins by train & between them Geneva & Lausanne have plenty of international companies.

Good luck

There are lot of new apartments in places like Renens, Chavannes, Ecublens. I have lived in the area of Pully which is very nice and very near from the lake.
Do you consider low community tax in making your decision. If yes then consider St Sulpice, Pully, Lutry but be prepare to pay high rent.
