New soon to be in Zurich

Hi this is the start of my research into a family move to Switzerland. The boys are aged 10 and 9. My husband is the one with the job! I will be at home...
Fortunately I have some rusty German which I am now working on - if I knew any Swiss German I'm sure this would help - but I think I need to leave this until we arrive. The rest of the family have no German...

Proposed move is Jan 2011 so I have a little time but I'm sure it will fly past.
So now I need to resolve all this things you do when you move to a new area - just making it a much bigger job by moving to a new country!!
I'm hoping this forum will be of help both now and post move - it's kind of exciting but also pretty scary!

Re: New soon to be in Zurich

Welcome to the Forum.
Every bit of German helps if you are living in this part of Switzerland. Of course the Swiss, even when they think they are speaking German German are not really - they have lots of words which are 'different', but not to worry. One only buys a chicken instead of a carrier bag once.

Hope the planning and the move goes well.

Re: New soon to be in Zurich

Hiya LilyRose, nice avatar. Welcome to EF. Having German is a nice to have in Switzerland but by no means critical. You hear more and more folk speaking English in ZH these days as people spread their global roots.

Good luck with your plans.
