| | Moving to Zug from Philadelphia
Greetings from Philadelphia, USA! I have been lurking on this forum for some months, as my husband and I pondered whether to take up an opportunity to move to Canton Zug for three years. We did and will be arriving in September.
Thanks to you English Forumers, I have already learned a great deal about my now home. I also have learned to do my research in the archives before asking a question -- I know how much some of you are irked by repetitive questions!
But I have a question that I haven't been able to find an answer to: I am currently preparing lists of goods that will be shipped to Switzerland. For insurance purposes I am supposed to give each item a value, based on the cost of replacing the item in Switzerland. I am finding this a bit daunting, as it is hard enough to set a price for something in the US. Based on discussions here, I'm tempted to multiply the price of something in the US by two, or even three, and call it good. I have tried looking at some online sellers, but it is hard to find an exact match.
I'd be grateful for any advice. In terms of clothing, we tend to the conservative -- Talbots for me, Brooks Brothers for him. Can anyone suggest a site for comparable clothing stores? In terms of household goods, most is moderately priced, sort of Crate and Barrel level stuff.
Thanks, and I'm looking forward to getting to know many of you soon!

Oops, first post and I've already messed up! I realize that I should have posted my question separately from my introductory statement. Sorry!
More about me: As my name and avatar suggest I'm a loyal Philadelphian and fan of the Phillies baseball team. My husband and I currently live in Center City Philadelphia, where we moved four years ago after our son left for university. We enjoy being able to walk everywhere. I took up rowing and go out on the Schuylkill River almost every day. I'm hoping to join a club either in the Zug or Zurich area.
We seem to be well suited for enjoying life in Switzerland: we love to ski, hike, bicycle, and travel. I am working hard to learn a bit of German before we move and plan to take language classes after arriving.

I would say Welcome, but I don't get to Zurich for another month or so.
I have some "mini" roots in Philadelphia as my old company, ARAMARK, was headquartered there, wife went to grad school there, and currently my brother-in-law is in Grad school there now. Although I'm a White Sox fan, I own a Ryan Howard Jersey.
It'd be nice to meet and possibly watch the World Series, although both of our teams will have to put together some winning streaks to make the playoffs. Hope you don't miss the Cheesesteak too much!

sending a container with all of your belongings? If so, just
list the contents and their worth. When I brought my container,
they didn't even look inside luckily.
For insurance purposes, I would multiply everything by 30%. For
customs declaration, just list the purchase price.
Cheers!! Let us know if you have questions.

Hi Phillygirl!
Welcome, soon, to your new home. I'm sure you guys will love it here.
You can order from Talbots online and have them deliver to Switzerland, but there is a premium to pay. Better to stock up before you leave and on holidays.
I don't know about Brooks Brothers.
You might like a similar online shop called Madeleine ( www.madeleine-mode.ch), in French and German. They have a 14-day return policy.

I'm originally a Philly girl too, although I lived in CA for the last 8 years. Don't forget to bring your Phillies Tshirts and Jerserys. Its different here, that's for sure!

Welcome Phillygirl,
you will find some really nice places around Zug for rowing such as Rotsee, Aegerisee, Sempachersee, Sihlsee etc.
There are a few clubs in Luzern, Zug, Cham, Aegeri and along the Zürichsee.
Here's a list if you want to contact them: Rowing
In Zürich you will find the "Damen-Ruderclub" for women.

Aaaah Haa, got it SemperEadem! My son is a huge Always Sunny in Philadelphia fan. By the way, how do you see it in CH?
