Snow??

Hi,

My name's Dan and I'll soon be moving to Zug from the South of France.

But I'm a bit scared of the change in weather..... is it really true that it's snowing there already!? It's 25 degrees and sunny here!!

Dan

Re: Snow??

Welcome to the Forum.

I wouldn't worry too much about the weather; chilly and wet but it isn't snowing in Zug yet. Above about 1800m it is though. This Site gives you up-to-date Info in case you are interested... Schnee = snow; frei = free; gesperrt = closed.

Re: Snow??

Welcome to the forum. I don't think that you need to worry about snow in Zug for a while yet. It is only just over 400m.

There has been snow down to around 1500m. This seems to have been a bit earlier than usual. First snow of "winter" 2010

You can have a look around with the webcams here and see the weather radar. They are in the Geo/Weather section

Re: Snow??

Yep, but we wouldn't want to lull him into believing that the weather is anything like sunny southern France.
It ain't

Sorry, there is lots of rain and cloudy weather and we do get snow from December to March. But the mountains are fabulous, the people are kind, and the winter sports are great too. Everything runs on time, everything is clean (and regulated) lots of rules and laws but once you get the hang of it, they're easy to follow.
It's a beautiful country that functions well.

Re: Snow??

Hmm yes, I guess I'll find out!

Well I was speaking to one of my French colleagues who spent 1.5 years in Zurich, and she said there's no sun at all in between October and February!! She said she had to go up the mountains every weekend for some sunshine. Don't have a problem with that!

I come from England though so I guess I am naturally more used to cloud and rain......!

The French version of that site, Inforoute TCS -- Cols et tunnels, will give you the information in French. You will soon discover that most EFers are from outre Sarine (as, of course, are most of the Swiss).

Outre Sarine is the French term for what I would call the "wrong" side of the Röstigraben.

Re: Snow??

Thank you!

Well, isn't outre Sarine much bigger than the French-speaking part?

While it of course is 10 degrees below what you have in Southern France, it is not snowing. Last Sunday, it was still around 20 degrees, and I even took my last swim in the Lake of Zurich (Zug is similar, except that the lake there is colder).

Welcome to the Forum Dan.

Tomorrow Sunday 3rd October, we are promised sunshine, warm wind, about 25 deg C.

Watch the Zuggies, greedy ba**ards. They like to live there 'cos the tax is low but spend all their spare time in Zurich where real people live.

Why dinn't yer git a job in the wess where they talk probber like?
