My husband, dog, and I arrived in Basel one week ago. My husband will be doing his post-doc here for we think the next three years. We've had some good days and some not- so- good. This website has been very helpful- thank you! Hoping to meet some people to make it feel more like home.

I can't wait to come - lots of walking and cycling I think in order to get to know the area. And after spending the last few weeks up to my elbows in weeds and frogs and slugs clearing the garden - I can't wait to get to a flat!!

Hello and welcome to Basel, lots of ya'll in this thread.. easy to spread the message.

There is Karaoke at Mr. Pickwicks tonight if you're into that, Ploughman's Lunch on Sunday (newly to Basel from Rapperswil) which many of us are looking forward to and the "ever popular" Curry Night this coming Wednesday (it is generally the first Weds every month).

So far everyone I've met from the forum has been very friendly and the events fun but relatively low-key... I guess a lot of fairly laid-back individuals we have.

Keep an eye on the Social Events (and sometimes Commercial ones too, that's where you'll see the Ploughman's Lunch) area, feel free to join in activities which interest you.

ALSO, if there are things you enjoy and would like to share, please feel free to post events yourselves. Sometimes it may take a bit to get enough "bites" as some folks are a bit shy but keep at it as (thanks to pharma) there are lots of folks coming and going often.

If you want a doggy venture out, then dogs seem to like it by the River Wiese at Lange Erlen (Bus 36). It's a shallow river with a wood at the side.

Tip - If you want your first "Thanks" then post a picture of your dog. They always seem to go down well with the regulars

I can't add anything to whats said above but I can offer you if you need a chat/walk I have dogs as well (who also speak english) and we know some really nice walks in Baselland/Aargau.

Also if you have any questions about dog law or keeping dogs here don't hesitate to ask (I'm a trained groomer and animal caretaker) and it can help knowing exactly what's what and where's what.

If you use your dog as your Avatar, we can see him every time you post. You might have to scroll down the screen somewhere to find the right button to do it though.

Welcome to Basel! I moved here in April with my husband who is also a post doc at the university. I just about know my way around now and feel settled so if you would like to go for a walk or meet for a coffee just shout. I know the first few weeks can be a bit tough.
