Family from Finland
Hello all,

We are a family from "World's best country" Finland (according to Newsweek). We moved to Zürich in September 2010. We do now our own survey by exploring this amazing country!

My husband is working here and I'm home with 2-year-old daughter. Emilia and I are looking forward to meet new friends.

The first two months here we have try to find an apartment (couldn't believe it's so hard, haven't found yet). It was also a surprise that soya-products are quite rare. But otherwise doing very well! Autumn has been lovely and sunny. It has been quite fun to look webcams in Finland, weather is not so favorable...

If anyone has questions concerning Finland, I'm glad if I can help.

Welcome to Zurich! An advise about how to find a good appartment in Zurich: Look on the surrounds, not so expensive and more calm, fit's better when you have kid's.

Welcome to Switzerland...when I first moved over I also found it really difficult to find a suitable apartment..I ended up taking a place in Zurich and paid a fortune for it..I soon discover the brilliant transport system and found a lovely and much more affordable place just outside Zurich..only 15 mins by train to Zurich HB...definately look outside the city you will get a much bigger apartment in a nice area and probably for cheaper than you would pay in Zurich...good luck..hope you find somewhere nice..

welcome to Zurich! Yeah, soya products are rare - all the veggie sausages and burgers etc are made of Quorn which isn't as healthy. You can get a better selection (although still mainly tofu blocks) at a health food shop (reformhaus).

Advice on how to find apartment: Don't mention that you've come from the Worlds best country, but say you've come to the worlds best country (and then you can mutter under your breath 'after Finland' to make yourself feel better).

Tervetuloa sveitsiin, tällä on ihana asua, muutin itsekin Lokakuussa tänne, helppo tapa saada nopeasti asunto on asua zurich alue 10:n ulkopuolella, esim. Dietikon, baden, winterthur ja Zug ovat hvviä vaihtoehtoja.

Ahh, why didn't you introduce yourself last week? It was Hug a Finn Day on Wednesday and my Finn hunting exploits failed badly in Zurich.

Hi All,

A little update. We did find an apartment in time. As a Finn we are so happy that the house has a Sauna! We know that it is rare in Switzerland. So we miss from Finland only rye bread, and relatives and friends.

This house is only 30 min from HB and there is lot's of apartments free. Sauna enthusiasts looking for apartment can contact me
