I can understand PIL, but not knowing Joy Division? (There was even a movie made about the singer)

I'm sure you will recognize the music though...

I had never heard of them (JD) either until my daughter started listening to them, but still wouldn't recognize their music.

PIL was JL's band after the Sex Pistols, that I knew.

Re: Vinyl records - where can I sell my collection?

Before my move, I tried to work out how to sell my vinyls, as I can't listen to them anymore anyway......

Well to expect 1000.- for 41 vinyls, as the OP hopes to, is wishful thinking.

Here are a few links to those who'd buy vinyls, but alas they don't buy anything!!

https://www.dj-alexander.ch/

Below a link to a shop in Bern

http://www.oldiesshop.ch/

and again below in german the rules what they buy and what not

http://www.oldiesshop.ch/index.php?page=752

and another one

http://schallplatten-ankauf-schweiz.mozello.ch/

Then there is a shop in Münsingen (close to Bern) and really easy to find once off the motorway.

http://www.vinylsound.ch/

And here are three phone numbers of 1 shop in Baden and 2 in ZH
http://www.zerozero.ch/

I still haven't got rid of my records.........in case anybody is interested in 60s/70s stuff

I buy quite a few records - unless you have something special (Beatles first press comes to mind), the values revolve around 1CHF per record (or without covers even less)
ahah got Beatles first press, many of them and so many more from the 60s and 70s - but I am keeping them all <3, The Stones, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, and so many more - all original covers- being old has its rewards

Sisters of Mercy, The Mission, Bauhaus, Love and Rockets, Joy Division...they are all quite recognisable. But I doubt that they have any collectable value (I found all the examples from the OP's list in eBay for similar but also for a fraction of the Fr.25 asking price per piece), e.g. here, here, and here.

How about: this, this and this ?

its nice that you put a link to VINYL LP BAUHAUS PRESS THE EJECT for 4.99$, where the shipment cost is 27.19$

anyway, let me explain the situation:
- Im grateful that my poor attempt to sell the vinyl collection initiated such discussion.
- I think that the attempt to sell on Ricardo was unsuccessful since there is probably less demand in CH for music such as punk and Gothic, which have their roots in UK. Therefore, Im glad that some people in this forum know at least what Im trying to sell...

- I tried to sell the records on ebay and did successfully. However, to deal with ebay, one needs much time - which unfortunately I cant commit for the moment.
- The price I mentioned was after some search I did on ebay and other websites.
- The price might sounds too high since I try to sell all records together and not separately. If you are really interested, please check the details for each record and market prices.
Most will be available either in ebay.com or ebay.co.uk.

and a big thank you for all the ones who replied to the point on my original question:
where can I sell my vinyl collection (shop/platform)?

Re: Vinyl records - where can I sell my collection?

Well... I also own a fair few of those LPs. Some are classics, some are dross. But, this post has made me think it's time to dust off my NADs and give the good ones a listen (hifi joke)

Sadly, it's another silly post. Advertise them properly on ebay and/or ricardo at a reserve of 5chf per record and stipulate a postage charge. You'll get what they're worth.

Any other option (i.e. a middle man.. and I know one in Basel) will get you 2 or 3 chfs per record.

There's a couple of problems here.

I've owned about 60% of those albums and gave them away to a friend a few years ago. They're considered post-punk, not punk or goth in the UK. The majority of them were huge underground successes, so they're hardly rare. If you had a 12" single of Love Will Tear Us Apart from the first batch pressing, that might be worth a bob or two because many of that batch were warped in storage. I bought and changed that 12" single 7 times during the week it was released, and they were all warped.

Good luck, but don't hold your breathe for a big return. Alternatively, you could always send your list over to Blutt Records on Limmatstrasse in Zurich to see if they'd be interested in any of them. http://www.bluttrecords.ch/

You gave 3 links.

2 are for a single buy of a new item, you want to sell a stack of used items, so those links are not relevant. But what they do tell us is that items get sold new for what you on average want for used ones in a stack, so your point could be that you agree that your price is to high, thanks for admitting such.

The other one is for someone selling 115 items at this moment, yet he only had 24 reviews in total over the yrs of which 12 over the past month as a seller. I'd say a lot of his adds will be disappearing without concluding a deal. So either he is overasking, or a bunch of his products are just not wanted.

As for advice: Have a look at discogs.com which has a decent trade in your styles and where the not so casual collectors and traders tend to hang out, people who know more often what they are doing than Ebay buyers/sellers.

How about New Order? Or Joy Division Light, some might say, in the same way that PIL is the Sex Pistols Light. Both Light versions are technically still going, by the way.

Re: Vinyl records - where can I sell my collection?

Reading this thread is making the angry teenager inside me wanna explode.

So, aladin, even I, a big fan of most of those apparently "unknown" bands, find the price way too high. Yes, these are originals and all, but even for a collector the price is too high, specially if you want to sell in a set. You might get a higher price for some individual albums, but usually one expects a discount when buying a whole set.

Remember these are relatively "new" bands in terms of vinyl. Most of these guys are alive and still producing music *checks google* yes, they seem to still be alive. Without trying to sound macabre, sometimes the price goes up once they die. So you might want to wait a bit?

I have most of these albums in mp3. Their fans are the bridge generation between the dinosaurs and the digital era, so I do have the feeling you are stuck with a fan base that might give less value to the vinyl collection. That doesn't mean you need to give up, you just need to wait because your target costumer is less common.

Oh crap, this thread made me feel like an old goth fart.

hahaha, nice comment Helm. Actually, I think you are correct and the target group is quite limited.
I hold these records for almost 30 years. There is no particular reason why I decided to offer them for sale now and not before. similarly, I can hold them for another 30 years (if I dont end in the "macabre way" by that time) , but not sure that the target group will increase. probably the other way around.

It is eventually a matter of request and demand. surely I will not be able to sell if the price is too high.
based on the other comments in this thread, I will keep checking and adjust if needed.

Again, thanks for the links and ideas. Ill try them out!

Joy Division sucks.

Listened to some before dinner just to reduce my appetite.

Green Day was far more appetizing.
