Easyjet has grounded its entire fleet, indefinitely, for the moment

https://www.bbc.com/news/business-52084003
Looks like I have to call and wait to get someone from Easyjet to talk to.

Try the German (or French) option. Worked for me.

My flight still shows not cancelled on Easyjet website. How much is advance did they cancel your flight ?
Around 5 days before. Looking on their website, they have cancelled up to the 9th on that route..... it's coming, they just leave it late in the hope that people jump early and move their flights.

My flight also got cancelled.

The only option to get a refund seems to be EC261 compensation which has terms as 'If your flight has been delayed or cancelled or you were denied boarding, you might be entitled to compensation if the cause was easyJetís responsibility. However, if the disruption was caused by weather, industrial action, air traffic control restrictions or other reasons beyond our control, you wonít be eligible for compensation.' which looks like it means I will not get compensation.

Were you given the option to rebook or receive travel credit?

Re: Flights - Basel to Manchester and back for Easter

Did we all get the email from the "CEO of Easyjet" last night ?

".... travel restrictions across Europe, we took the decision to temporarily ground all of our fleet of aircraft. This means that throughout April, there will be no easyJet flights operating anywhere on our network other than for repatriation..."

Mine are still not cancelled .. 19th, 23rd & 25th Apr...

Yes. They informed me 1 week before the flight date that the flight is cancelled.

Re: Flights - Basel to Manchester and back for Easter

In my view, accepting a voucher, or future travel credit is kissing goodbye to your consumer rights. Any promise from an airline is worthless and customers are bottom of their priority list.

I recommend reading the tís and cís of the credit card used to book the flights.

Most airlines will do anything they can, even where itís blatantly unlawful, to hold onto as much cash as possible.

I hope no one forgets these companies that couldnít wait to screw their customers and employees.

You won’t get compensation.... but you will get a refund. You also have a year to claim it, so don’t panic if you can’t get through on the phone before the date of the flight!

I hope Easyjet exists that long to give the refund. This twitter feed drove me nuts. Now I have to get onto twitter to get feedback from them. I am probably never flying Easyjet again even if for free. Its a disgrace that they cancel flights and do not provide a refund option. I can understand they (and all airlines) are going through a tough phase but are we customers supposed to bear the costs. I am hoping my travel insurance covers this. I have no faith in this sick airline to get my money back.

They do. You just have to phone them to get it.

I've had flights cancelled by them and arranged my own alternatives and always been refunded. One time four of us were scheduled to fly from Manchester. While waiting to board, post-security, it was cancelled. We stayed overnight, had a meal and breakfast, caught a Swiss flight to ZŁrich in the morning, got the train back to Basel. Total cost ~4000CHF. I claimed back online with receipts (not compensation), and a few weeks later the money was in my account.

It's an annoyance that straightforward refunds on cancellation are not possible at the moment. But a disgrace? I think not. In normal circumstances they behave very well. I can understand not wanting to do a mass refund - I'd rather they survived to be honest.

That is the big question.

Come May, the governments will have to decide who they are going to bail out and who they are going to let go for good.

It's obvious they can't bailout everybody, all the time.

My guess, in this particular industry, it that they'll bail out a few airlines. But certainly not all of them. Because chances are they'll have to do it again soon enough.

There was a lot of overcapacity even before the crash. It's going to take a very long time before air-travel reaches the level it had at the end of 2019.
As such, we need much less airplanes and much less airlines.

I don't understand this conversation. If Easyjet hasn't cancelled the flight, just call them and say you don't want to travel. You can cancel or switch for no cost at the moment.
