Computer Wanted

Hey All,

Anyone selling a computer they're no longer using? We need a spare to run one complex program so it can't be super old.

Let me know.

Thanks so much,

Amanda

Digitec and any of the normal retailers have lots of computers they are happy to sell that they are not using

Re: Computer Wanted

I think the OP was asking for a secondhand computer, not cloud space. Can you even run a program from rented cloud space if the software is not provided by the Cloud company?

Buying a cheap new one is probably the OPs best bet, 300.- will get a reasonable laptop, which should at least have a 1 year warranty. But it depends how much RAM is needed to run the program whether its 32 or 64bit.

I guess listing some of the basic specs you require would help, as there are a lot of pedantic nerds on this forum.

I have a G5 Mac Pro Tower but thats really quite old now.

Yes, they are asking for a secondhand computer, but what the really want is something to run a program on.

Yes. You rent a server with the OS you need, and then can install on that whatever you want.

Melectronics had Acer Aspire ES 15 laptops on sale at xmas. 259CHF, 4G Ram and 1TB disk.

Not exactly breathtaking, but you can upgrade the ram to 8 for about 70CHF. No SSD, but still, not bad.

Re: Computer Wanted

I have a load of ZX Spectrums, 16k, 48k and a couple of 128K's with disc drives, got some microdrive systems that will work on the 16k & 48k too if you're feeling a bit flush.

For a little more power I have a couple of Atari ST's, one has 512k the other 2Mb of memory, double sided 3.5 inch floppies.

For power on the go a couple of Atari Portfolios

So, Wadda want??

I doubt the floppies still work.
The belt in my 1541 drive started to disintegrate after a decade or so.

I changed the belts recently and got rid of the sticky mess the old ones had become, all computers are 100%(ish) working

I'll just use the squidgy keys as stressbusters.....

After all, If I had a tv it would work on, I'd only get more stressed trying to load those tape games and listening to that loading sound :-)

Ah that's very kind of you, but don't trouble yourself. I'll just use my mind palace (aka Sherlock) to give myself some virtual warm nostalgia... but thanks, very kind of you.
