Cine projector?

A long shot I know... I have a load of cine films shot by my parents and grandparents. I'd like to get them digitised but would prefer to check them out first in order to make a selection. I don't suppose anyone round here has a cine projector I could borrow?

Re: Cine projector?

At 18 or 24 frames per second, that could take a while...

You'll probably have to buy a new bulb.

EDIT: It's probably going to work out cheaper to have them digitize everything and edit the result digitally. You'll probably need a new bulb on a used projector, possibly a new belt (made of unobtanium).

You see them at the Brokenhaus every now and then.

Re: Cine projector?

Thanks all. I may have to take them with me somehow next time I go to the UK, I'm pretty certain the in-laws have got one. I sorted through the thousands and thousands of slides a few weeks ago and ended up with only around 200 to keep and scan. I don't really fancy incurring the cost of digitising the lot if I'm only going to want to keep 5-10%

Re: Cine projector?

If you are anywhere near Wädenswil, you might have a chat with these folks:
https://www.tevy.ch

Years ago we toyed with the idea of digitizing old family films from the 60s, and wanted to do something similar. We had a casual chat with the gentleman who runs this store about previewing the films first; apparently he has (had?) all sorts of old equipment, he thought he might have an appropriate projector.

In the end we never got around to organizing the family memorabilia, still on the to-do list - so I don't know what it would have cost. But you might ask.

Again, this was a good 5 years ago, I hope the gentleman (along with his vintage equipment) is still there...

Re: Cine projector?

That's a thought, never occurred to me. My mum used to get all her films developed there.
I know the youth charitable place at the Wädenswil end of Richterswil used to advertise digitisation and that's where I was thinking of getting that aspect done, if I could only remember what it was called.

Re: Cine projector?

I am currently going through my parents 8mm home movie collection using a projector I bought on Ricardo. I find the best way to digitalise it is to watch the film, decide which bits to record and then rerun; videoing bits using my mobile camera. the quality is not great but then the quality of the original is also not great and there is a certain charm in the flickering. this way I can reduce hours of film down to byte size clips that will interest our kids.
Happy to lend you the projector when I am finished, send a PM
