Overlocker wanted

I'm looking for a CHEAP overlocker. If anyone has one they no longer use please drop me a line....
I've just decided to start sewing again after over 20 years and bought a sewing machine but that was already most of the budget I had......

Re: Overlocker wanted

How cheap is cheap?

Fust has a Husqvarna for CHF 249, a Toyota for 249 as well, and a Singer for CHF 169.

(The Singer Pro, at CHF 629, is 'momentarily' out of stock.)

Galaxus has Singers, AEG, Toyota, Brother, ranging from CHF 269-499.

I never really got into overlock machines, so I can't comment on the quality/utility of these. FYI only.

Re: Overlocker wanted

The cheapo Singer machine (price around 160 CHF) is a fairly good hobby machine.

Re: Overlocker wanted

Thank you both..
I'll head to Just tomorrow and take a look.

I'm really only making my own things and altering dresses etc since I'm only 5'3" and EVERYTHING is too long and alterations are outrageously expensive..

Re: Overlocker wanted

Overlockers and sewing machines usually come up on special offer in Lidl a couple of times a year.

I do a little bit of sewing, really just shortening garments, repairs, simple alterations and things like making cushion covers. My OH bought a pair of trousers last year that were obviously made for a stilt walker (and he's 6 feet tall). He put them into a dry cleaners to have them shortened to the right length and it cost him 30CHF.

Later in the year we were shipping stuff across from our house in Scotland so I decided at 30 francs a pop for something as simple as shortening trousers, I should include my machine in the shipment. I've altered a new pair of trousers for him and 2 pairs of chinos for myself this week alone, so it was worth it.

Re: Overlocker wanted

Let me know how happy you are with the Fust overlock, pls.

I do full on dresses, bikinis, tshirts, hats, mittens and whathaveyou and need an inexpensive but reliable one, no stitches missing, etc.

Plus will have my mini-me wanting to operate one, too, so it cannot be too complex.

Re: Overlocker wanted

I’ve heard very good things about the Baby Lock machines. I seem to recall them mentioned as a good value as well.

Re: Overlocker wanted

So, I went to Fust and bought the Husqvarna 'huiskylock S15'.

And to my absolute amazement i was able to use my Coop points for pay for the whole thing incl extended warranty.

I was supposed to be around 250 chf. Its sturdy enough and gets good reviews online so that was why I chose it.....

I now need to get my head around threading it up and I'll give it a try....

Re: Overlocker wanted

OK, just a quick update incase anyone is interested. Its a great little machine. easy to carry, not too heavy and not too difficult to thread.

Its fast enough and I'm very happy with it.
