Wanted: Acoustic Guitar

Do you have an old acoustic guitar in your basement? I'd be happy to take it off your hands, and even pay for it.

I'd be happy with either nylon or steel strings.

(I could also trade for an electric guitar.)

Re: Wanted: Acoustic Guitar

I'd sell the Catalina, but not the other, nor the electrics (except for the Ibanez Gio).

Re: Wanted: Acoustic Guitar

I mainly use the electrics, even unplugged, much nicer to play.

Re: Wanted: Acoustic Guitar

My daughter has a 3/4 sized Yamaha guitar that she has outgrown. Suitable for beginners and if you up to 160cm tall (my rough estimate).

Would that be of interest?

For that sort of money you're really not looking at something that's been kicking around in someone's basement. Better off looking on tutti, anibis, etc. Seem to be a few half-decent guitars at just over 200. I particular like the Aria one currently showing in this search

If you're wanting this to learn on then you should really consider carefully the type of guitar you're looking for and specifically the string choice - there are very different techniques involved for nylon or steel stringed guitars, very different types of music can be produced, very different almost everything.

Actually, the one I have available has bronze strings (had nylon when I bought it, and steel for a while), a hard case, and has always been in the correct temp and humidity.

At 30 years old, it's one of the youngest I own, only my Yamaha acoustic and Squire VI are younger.

I have three 56+, all electric. You don't want to know the prices.

For clarity (for the OP) "Bronze" in this context simply refers to steel strings, the lower four (normally) of which are wound round with a phosphor-bronze coating for a different sound and increased longevity. Nearly all 'steel' acoustic guitar strings are of this type.

Hah. I've never been one to "collect" things like guitars, but my two acoustics are also of a certain age. One bought new by me in 1980, a beautiful-sounding, narrow-necked Ibanez and the other my 1972 Guild 12-string, acquired some time later. I love them both and wouldn't even consider selling either. I suspect they have some value, but I don't know, or really care. what they're worth.

I build my own.

If I want less power, I just pull a pair of the output tubes.

Why?

My worst electric plays far better than my best acoustic, and I do know how to set them up.

You could also bypass an amp and get an interface and just play directly into / through your computer. e.g. into a DAW or a free mixing program like Audacity. I like to play through effects like reverb, etc. and have a nice effects station, but the effects in my DAW (Ableton) are so much better, and I have so many more effects that way, as plug-ins. I also get much cleaner recordings than playing through an amp. (In my case, with electric guitar, bass or cello).

I have my 40 year old home-made tube amp, based on the guts of a late '60s Plush bass head, design finalised around 20 years ago, 40 or 80w RMS depending on how many output tubes I have installed, pushing a Jeat mBL E120 (I have a spare and a re-cone kit), 100dB gain in the preamp if I want it, and a great master volume circuit so that I don't kill the neighbors (I ran it open once when my wife was still living in Stabio as I was pissed off at her neighbors)

Oh, the wonderful magic of guitar playing, when you play at 80W RMS and the neighbors not only hear you, but also complain.

If I play bass at 80W RMS, the neighbors MIGHT hear me. Probably not. With 80W in the full band setting I can't even hear myself.
