URGENT: Fin/Controlling roles

This is an URGENT request to those within the BS/ZH Kantons

I am on a deadline to find a job within the first 3 months of 2019 as my passport expires this year.

Since 2018 I have called recruiters, given 2 interviews (both unsuccessful) and made plenty of online applications which have yielded only rejections. I am on a tight budget and have spent part of savings in learning the German language - completing the B1 level end of last year.

If anyone out there knows of job openings within their organisations or through word of mouth please get in contact with me.

Summary of EXP

Financial Controlling - 3 years.
Financial User IT Support - 1.5 years.
Skills - Microsoft Suite, SAP, Hyperion, SQL
Language - English, German

Once again - I understand that the job market is tough but if anyone is looking to hire with similar skillset please get in touch.

Aira

Re: URGENT: Fin/Controlling roles

Can't you get a stop-gap job while you are looking for "the one"? Something in McDonalds or Starbucks, for example. B1 German isn't that advanced but should be enough for the time being in such a temporary job. At least you can keep your permit on the go in that time.

Re: URGENT: Fin/Controlling roles

Tried and tested with local ones like Migros, Coop, Aldi since it would improve the language skills considerably more than trying in Starbucks or McDonalds.

These kinds of jobs have a simplified one-page resume from me - the thing is the market is tough even for stop-gap jobs.

Re: URGENT: Fin/Controlling roles

Here are a few ideas on searching for a job in Switzerland:

1) The Swiss job service, RAV, may be able to assist you with:

a. Discussions about the job market and suggestions about how to go about a job search.

b. Access to jobagent.ch, a good job search spider. (RAV can normally provide an access code at no-charge).

c. Job search strategy and possibly German language courses.

2) These two links are to lists of Swiss job boards:

https://www.ag.ch/media/kanton_aarga...lenboersen.pdf

https://www.biz.erz.be.ch/biz_erz/de...m_Internet.pdf

3) In addition to jobagent.ch mentioned above, these job search engines are particularly good, imho:

https://www.indeed.ch/

https://jobsuchmaschine.ch/en/

4) These free advertising boards might be useful:

https://www.anibis.ch/de/job-job-ang...dvertlist.aspx

https://www.tutti.ch/de/li/ganze-schweiz/stellen-kurse

https://www.liliput.ch

5) NZZ has a list of jobs in English:

http://jobs.nzz.ch/channel-jobs-in-english-12

Good luck to you!

Re: URGENT: Fin/Controlling roles

What recruiters have you been dealing with? Have you tried someone like EMEA Recruitment or Swisslinx?

Also, have you broaden your search to other Cantons like SH and ZG? I know the commute is going to be horrendous but it might give you a better chance at securing a job...

Re: URGENT: Fin/Controlling roles

This is some additional input:

1. Interviews: it appears that you are getting some interviews. This suggests that your CV and application letter are acceptable.

- If you think you should be getting more interviews from your applications, review your CV and ensure that it meets Swiss CV standards.

- For a Swiss CV example, search on "lebenslauf schweiz". Here's an example that can be downloaded (but there are others too):

https://vorlage-muster.ch/sdm_downlo...age-vorlage-1/

-- Note: having a Swiss-compliant CV is less important for international companies.

- When submitting your application dossier electronically, try to put all pdf's in one file. This looks more professional than submitting individuals ones.

- Consider translating your CV into German to help get it past the hiring company's HR department, even if the job is in English.

- If you haven't heard back from a company/ recruiting firm after submitting an application, follow up by telephone. This shows you're interested.

2. Networking: on average, 70% of jobs in CH are not advertised, although this varies widely among job areas and industries. See this link (German):

https://awa.zh.ch/content/dam/volksw...4-2017_4-6.pdf

Suggestion: continue your networking efforts.

3. English-speaking jobs:

English-speakers are often advised to look for jobs in tourist areas and at the airports. Also, so-called Hilfsarbeit jobs such as packing and cleaning can be available for those with limited German skills.

As the saying goes, looking for a job can be a full-time job. Good luck!
