English teacher

Hi all!

I am a native English speaker with experience teaching English as a foreign language, I hold a TEFL, a degree and experiences in language schools in Bern. I am currently a stay at home mum since the last 4 months and I am looking to slowly work my way back into working life (in Bern).

So, if you are looking for a private English teacher please do not hesitate to contact me! I am looking forward to meeting new people and helping you with your English language wishes.

Kind regards,

Jaide.

Sorry to say it but this doesn't sound like native English. What gives?

My thoughts exactly.

Maybe the OP is some years away from their native tongue?

Well, I must admit that that at home we speak a fascinating and somewhat curious mix of French and English, often within the same sentence :D and I know I tend to import words from one language to the other :msnblush:

But surely when offering your services as a language teacher you try to avoid basic grammar mistakes?

Wow thanks everyone for your kind and supportive words...maybe I should go and check what my native language is. Perhaps after 7 years in der Schweiz I am no longer a native English speaker 😬

To be fair, some of your phrasing in your OP is a little off and native English speakers don't say "since four months". That's a Germanic contruction. You've likely just got a bit out of practice.

Also, if you're wanting to teach English you'll be up against a lot of CELTA.

Yes, your comments are all fair. However, if I was looking to make a fortune and be a very successful English teacher then I don’t think I would be posting on the English forum. Like I said I would also like to meet new people and have fun with helping them improve their English (as well as my own apparently). But, despite my flaws, I do believe that I can help people who may be looking for a more relaxed teaching style. I.e. going for walks together and talking about whatever it is we see. I may not be the best, but I have spent 24 years living, and growing up, in England, with a very British family.
So if there is anyone looking for something like this, then I promise not to over charge you!

As EF is mainly for people who are confident users of English, have you considered making up an advert in Gernan and posting it at your local Coop and Migros?

You might get more bites, and you won't need to worry about since/for...

Good luck!

Or local church (you don't have to be religious for that), Gemeinde, local library.
One of my aquintances is giving drawing lessons through some activities organised by their Gemeinde and she even makes a few bucks out of it while not going totally insane with a toddler at home.

Frauenverein is another option too.
