It's wonderful to get a groan for absolutely no apparent reason. Specially on a post supposed to try to lighten up a morronic thread. But as someone else said, having a groan on a decent post just makes you stronger, and the groaner look like an idiot.

Sorry that it wasn't someone nicer to pop that cherry!
Dear Helm,
Don't be upset about the groan, please. It will give you freedom to be more controversial.
You' ve lost innocence but you have gained wisdom.
You rock in the nerd thread! So now you'll be like Captain Picard: he went to the dark side, was assimilated by the Borg, and when he returned it was visible that he had achieved full human integration.

The cyclists attempted this a couple years ago--due to this the rep system was revamped (from what I remembered).

Re: How to annoy a nerd

I decided to go on a little nerdy art project this weekend.

You might remember a thread I created sometime ago. After getting rid of some of the stuff, I still had a bit too much useless stuff at home and too many white walls. So I decided to get things together...

Materials:

Carpenter's Glue
Alcohol
IKEA frame
Plaster

1 - Go through your IT garbage and select the pieces with the most artistic qualities

2 - Disassemble the Ikea frame and draw a 4cm margin with the help of a CD marker (or any alcohol based marker). Turn the glass around: we will be working on the clean glass surface.

3 - Use some alcohol to clean the surface of all fat and dirt. At this point you will probably have cut yourself quite badly on the glass edges, so please clean the blood too.

4 - Use generous amounts of carpenter's glue to glue the pieces on the glass. The glue is white while fresh, but will turn transparent once dry. This graphic card cooler is actually my favourite piece...

Re: How to annoy a nerd

(cont. couldn't put more that x pictures on a post)

5 -
Arrange the pieces in whatever graphical arrangement you fancy the most

6 - Let the thing dry for a couple of hours before this next step!!! Use glue on the IKEA frame.

7 - Turn the glass around and place it carefully on the frame. MAKE SURE THE STUFF IS RELATIVELY DRY! As a tip, use two books to elevate the frame, so the volume of the pieces doesn't mess around with the balance of the glass. Remove the marker margins with the help of alcohol and a piece of paper. Don't make too much pressure: IKEA glass is cheap!

8 - Let it dry during a couple of days. When all the glue is finally transparent, it's ready to be hang!

9 - You need the plaster to wrap your fingers, so you don't smear the whole thing with bloody imprints.

So that was my nerdy weekend!

P.S.: Thank you guys, for the groan support... *hugs* You guys are the best ^^

That is freaking awesome !!!
I had my own projects (code for furniture shopping and assembling) over the weekend, unfortunately not nerdy but did involve a lot of IKEA.

Re: How to annoy a nerd

I finally finished my Sopranos marathon this Saturday. Caught between the possibility of 24 (which dead bores me) and Weeds (can't see the point), I started watching SGU instead.

I have to say that after 9 years of rinse and repeat from SG1 and "please, someone get me out of this series" Atlantis, SGU left quite a good impression on the 3 first episodes. The fact that I am siding with the crazy scientist only means he is going to die soon, the fact that the black soldier disturbs me means he will last till the end of the series, and the math student/comic relief is so cliché it’s probably going to bore me to death. But, anyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyway... Up till 3rd episode would advise (which I wouldn't do with SG1 post season 2 or any of Atlantis).

The thing that annoys me the most as a nerd, is filling one comic-relief character with all those moronic clichés “non-nerds” expect from nerds in general. Special with this ridiculous fixation to Planet of the Apes (I guess Star Wars references wouldn’t be really that “original”).

I'm making my way though an episode-by-episode watching of Futurama.

Just watched "Jurassic Bark" for the first time. Seriously teared up at the end. wow.

Good choice. 24 is really boring. Same old storyline....same plots...same cliffhangers. Nothing really new.

Stargate has been one series which I have loved mostly. Right from the first movie until the recent series. I have not watched all of them but they are all quite cool.
I had the same feeling for BSG, when I watched the new series and the movies. I was fixated until season 4...but after that it started getting too many political and religious undertones for my taste.
But still have the hots for Caprica Six.

This is the thing that gets me mad as well. The same cliches, the same stupid jokes. Even if the nerd is the one who saves the day, its always the hero who gets the girl.
And speaking of Planet of the Apes, I watched it again over the weekend along with some others such as Hollow Man, Gone in 60 seconds, Total Recall etc... I need a movie marathon to get through my list of to-watch.
Also the review for "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" looks really promising.

Re: How to annoy a nerd

I loved Futurama! I was quite happy to hear they are continuing it!

There is one episode, though, which I HATED. It still makes me uber-utter-crazy sad. The one that Fry finds his old dog inside cement, but instead of reviving him, he decides to leave it alone, thinking the dog won't remember him anymore. And ends up with the saddest scene ever made on a cartoon of the dog waiting for Fry to come. Even Ai no Kusabi's end was not that depressing!
