Took me a few seconds to get the Boromir joke ... sad, really, but I did watch Red Planet (the one about Mars, with Carrie-Anne Moss) last night, so a long way from fantasy ...

Relax - my Dad had to study meteorology for his pilot's licence, and the meteorologist who was lecturing boasted of his organisation's 45% accuracy rate!

There is a certain RPG on my PC that has this wonderful option of attacking NPCs. When, after running the whole world to go pick up some stupid item inside some stupid deadly monster, I come back and get 1 single absurd gem stone, I can get my bladeofsouls and chop the bitch to smithereens. And I get her house as an extra for being evil. MUAHH AHAH

I don't think it would be good for business to do the same in RL. But it feels gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood. *evil laugh* *strokes kitty*

(I wish I could do the same on FF RPGs... bunch of bitchy NPCs)

NPCs, if the AI is not done well, can be bloddy annoying on missions as well.

Lets take an example :

Last night I was playing GRID.
In this game, I have a racing team.
I and my teammate, who I hired coz his stats were good, compete in events. Every single time I was in a race, my teammate, who would be behind me or in front of me or wherever would go over the comm saying "Hey mate, I'm right behind you, can you see me ?" or "Hey mate, I'm right in front of you".
Now this guy I hired is scottish...so his accent is fine...but it gets bl00dy annoying after a bit.

And every single time, I mean every damn single time he passed me or I passed him, he drove me off the track !!!

I mean, COME ON !!! You are ON MY EFFING TEAM !!! GET THE F*** OUT OF MY WAY !!!

*deep breaths* goosfraba

Re: How to annoy a nerd

How about those missions you have to escort an NPC through out a world full of bandits/monsters/mutants/cops, and even though you tell the guy "Stay" on a safe little corner, the morronic AI just decides to make him run into the open after you out of a sudden, getting himself killed?

One of those missions I got so frustrated, I killed the NPC myself on the 25th try... <.< (of course, using the biggest sword available...)

P.S.: Come oooooooooon... One can never get annoyed with Scotish accent... Cockney on the other hand...

Re: How to annoy a nerd

The Bauleiter has to calculate the area of a complicated roof form. He has no idea how to do it, so he asks the help of another Bauleiter with a Zimmermann study. They linger for ages over the picture without knowing how to solve it, but having heard the conversation, I offer to help.

OMG... Trigonometry problems! I get my note books and pencils, my formulas out of the dark depths of my memory (I actually still remember them!), boss the guy around to operate the calculator while I go through the senos, co-senos and hipotenusas.

I happily, proudly, eagerly present the result. Their reaction: to blink weirdly at me, slightly confused, very uncomfortable.

"Why are you so nervous?"
"I'm not nervous... I'm excited!"

The look that followed, my friends, is how you truly, utterly, indecorously annoy the math nerd.

Yeah, those are annoying ... and so are the ones where you have NPCs to help in battle, and they always get in the way - especially when you want to lob a fireball in, when you've got the enemy nicely concentrated in one area ...

Scottish accents?
