Re: Name of the Day

Internet proof might be tricky, but I once worked sticking mailing labels on envelopes for a sporting charity back when I was 15/16, and one of the guys that I sent a leaflet to was a Mr P V C Chin of Broadwoodwidger in Devon.

Dentist in Scotland called D. Kay.
Reminds me of a dentist practice in Leeds some years back who had thier big plate glass front window broken. It was boarded up the next day awaiting new glass, and they'd put up a temp sign "Open Wide As Usual"

Re: Name of the Day

I actually did know someone called Teresa Green when I was living in Plymouth, UK. But in my hometown I had a friend Leia Greer, whose mother was called Anne.

Re: Name of the Day

Bill Lear, of Lear Jet fame, named his daughter Shanda.

(Don't miss the Learisms, just below. I like the electronics one.)

P.S. not provable on the net, but I have worked with a Richard Head, and a real Mr. Bean.

EDIT: Add a real Jim Bond, and a real Andy Williams too.

Re: Name of the Day

Well I really am called Terry Hall (as in The Specials and Fun Boy Three) and was in the same class at school for 12 years with a lad called Robert Smith (as in The Cure)

Endless hilarity for our teachers, mild bemusement for us...

On this subject has anyone actually done that, looked up funny names in the phone book?

Obviously at aged 12 it was highly amusing

Re: Name of the Day

My mother used to work on an army camp for a "Major Hazard" (real name). He was generally avoided.

Re: Name of the Day

Sharing a house with drunken students once meant having to listen to their banal calls including phoning up all those with surname "Bacon" in the phone book and asking to speak to Eggsn.

However they did push the boundaries of good taste when they phone International Directory enquiries repeatedly in an attempt to get the name of a certain "S.Hussain". After being hung-up-on by the operator for the third time, they were reliably informed that Mr Saddam Hussain is ex-directory.

They had their come-uppance however when they asked the pizzaman to deliver a Hawaiian pizza from Honolulu...to England. He paused for but a moment, and took the order. They had to go through with it. It was not in good shape when it arrived a week later.
