What do you get if...

...you hold CTRL-ALT and then hit one of the down, left or right arrow keys?

Cheers,
Nick

Cool! Will wait until someone in the office pops to the loo then let loose with this quality Friday prank.

If you're using a DE keyboard it's Strg-Alt and the arrow.

Works on my computer and I've found, since she went off to get a coffee, it works on our secretary's (and I just had to stop her calling the IT dept.)

Re: What do you get if...

On the same note there is a keystroke combination that makes a Mac screen look like a negative.... Can't remember what it is now though!!!

Re: What do you get if...

So the screen looks like a negative? Cool. I wonder if there’s a combination of keys to create a message like “This computer will self-destruct in 10 seconds…9…"

Snicker, snicker…

Best,

Reb

Re: What do you get if...

If you press CTRL-ALT-F in Mozilla, Netscape and probably also Firefox browsers, it will take you to an Easter Egg website. Regrettable the site has moved and is accessible under this URL now.

// Press CTRL-ALT-COMMAND-8 in OS X for color inversion.

No, but I found this cool April Fools Prank, turn your friends Mac into a PC!!!

The key stroke to invert the screen is Hold down the Ctrl, Command, Apple keys and press 8 from the number line above the letters (not the numeric keypad).

Hmm reminds me of the old "replace desktop icons with identical wallpaper" joke, and watch your workmate hammer the mouse buttons.

Too bad we're seven months late for April Fools!

I like that one...

But being a glass is half full type of person, I rather look at it as we are 4 months early for April fools day!

Yeah I have done that using a netsend command. Freaked the crap out of a colleague. I wrote "Your work station has encountered a fatal error. Please go have a coffee while the hard disk is reformatted". She totally lost it and almost hit me when she figured out later that I had done it

Well not sure if it will work for you, but go to the DOS window (cmd) enter:
net send (IP of computer or computer id on LAN) then type the text you want to appear

Example:
net send 192.168.0.12 whassup yo?

I suggest you try it out with a PC next to you you can send a net send to.

To find the IP, go to the PC you want to send to: Start - run (type in cmd), then type ipconfig

Re: What do you get if...

Wasn't there a rather nice screensaver for Macs that looked uncommonly like a broken LCD screen? If only someone would write it into a mac virus...

Re: What do you get if...

I remember about 10 yeas ago on an old version of Quark Express, if you selected a text box and pressed command/shift/delete (or something similar) a space man marched in from the right of the screen and blasted the box away with his ray gun.

One of the developers had a grudge against the company and wrote this in just before he quit.

Be careful playing around with this, We had a girl where I used to work who used Net send to send messages to her boyfriend, I forget what she did wrong but managed to send a rather personal message to every PC on her network segment
