I like Brâncuși too, though except for "Madamoiselle Pogany" and his sculptures in Târgu Jiu, I have a hard time fully understanding his works. I appreciate the ambiguity in the shapes he creates and the mix of surreal, postmodernist and folkloric elements.
With regard to the “Princess” sculpture, it’s supposed to depict Princess Marie Bonaparte’s vanity by showing her gazing down at herself (like there was a mirror) but I can’t help thinking he must be laughing from beyond the grave at our society’s prudishness for being so easily scandalized over a piece of art. (If I remember correctly, the museum that first exhibited the piece removed it due to its obscene nature) Guy must have had a great sense of humor
