| | Language teachers please fill in a student's questionnaire!!
Hello,
a friend of mine is an English language teacher currently writing her Master's thesis and therefore needs a minimum of questionnaires filled in by foreign language teachers (any language). It's all in English, really small and you can do it online in no time at all. Check out the link : http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/PTL5593 I would very much appreciate it, if only foreign language teachers answered this, as the girl needs serious results!
Thanks for the help!!

Don't worry you don't have to put your name on it! |

Despina, your friend needs to rewrite her questionnaire. She will find a lot of useful tips on this site for example.
When I was studying, we had to come up with quite a lot of questionnaires and I can see clearly than the one concocted by your friend is much too long and much too complicated.

It's true. Plus, they would have found out as soon as they clicked on the survey.
I feel sorry for your friend. Questionnaire design is a science in itself. All too often students are asked to produce these things without getting any training on how questions should actually be framed, how long a survey should etc.

But I have no idea what "good" surveys are supposed to look like. Like I said, my friend didn't improvise there and, according to her, her supervisor is supposed to be an expert.
All I am asking for now is that people answered this questionnaire (even out of pity for the poor girl that got stuck with this! ), because they probably have been there as students and know what it feels like to run out of time and not have a complete survey in their hands. |

Took me about 15 minutes - although some of the questions were badly phrased (eg, assuming everyone uses rewards, and only asking a question about how such rewards should be used - teaching is more effective when the student has an intrinsic reward!).
Still, not too hard to get through.

done. 10 minutes is fine. wasn't too complicated, just wordy but it's all teacher jargon and not the most concise, at that. but it's fine, nothing to be scared about | This user would like to thank amaraya for this useful post: | |

Done. I found a couple of questions a bit confusing, including the one about involving parents (not necessarily applicable in all L2 teaching contexts, for example when teaching to adults) and the one assuming everyone uses "explicit rewards".
Hope that helps. Cheers.

I would have liked to have a "Not Applicable" option instead of being forced to choose. I think it would also have been useful to ask what age-groups we teach as it would have impacted my answers quite a bit.

I answered them all but it did seem to be designed for teachers of children/younger people and so some of the questions weren't very relevant if most of your time is spent teaching adults.
The questions were all a bit long and wordy and I had to read some of them a couple of times to be able to understand what they were getting at but overall it only took about 10 minutes so it wasn't too bad.

My friend and I appreciate your comments and tips and would like to thank each one of you for taking a look at the survey and -in many cases- for answering it too.
There is ONLY 1 left now! Please, please, please "Last One", help this girl get her thesis done! |
