How would you translate "Taschenrechner bedienung?"

'ello.

I'm helping my boss convert a page from our website from German to English.

Can someone please tell me how to translate the following word into English?

Taschenrechnerbedienung

I did a search with my online dictionary but found no results, and my boss is unable to explain the definition (in English) to me well enough for me to translate it on my own.

Thank you!

Carrie, I've never heard of it before. Could you describe what it is, as it seems, that it is a company/product/process specific word.

Edit: Or give us the whole sentence..that might help as well.

I don't think that you should translate it with manual (depeding on the context this could of course be what is meant). Taschenrechnerbedienung is simply the noun describing the act of using a calculator (a calculator manual would be a Taschenrechnerbedienungsanleitung).

I was thinking of that as well...but it shoudl be 2 words IMO.

Taschenrechner Bedienung, which basically translates into "pocket calculator usage".

Re: How would you translate "Taschenrechner bedienung?"

Thanks to everyone. I didn't realize that the words should be separated (which certainly helps!) For whatever reason, my boss has the words combined on our site (this particular page is still being developed).

The word is used in a drop-down menu on our website (a job board). Basically, it's among other types of jobs/positions (e.g. Mathematics/Statistics, etc.) on our tutoring page. But what I don't understand is how "calculator manual" or "calculator usage" would be considered a type of tutoring position, so I'll have to ask him about that. Unless anyone here has an idea of what might be better used to describe that type of position? MathNut, where are you? :P

Thank you again!

It is written as one word "Taschenrechnerbedienung", however, separating it into two helps for translation

indeed - hence me signing off as Donaudampfschiffahrtsgesellschaftskapitän

Donau = a river name
Dampfschiff = steam boat
Fahrt(s) = ride (possessive)
Gesellschaft(s) = society/club (possessive)
Kapitan = Haddock ()

Man, the German language loves compound words, doesn't it?

Is it maybe a workshop or course on calculator use or something? Or a skill set which is required?
I'm not sure why using a calculator is a particular skill, but anyway .

No, that would be wrong. Composite nouns are always(?) written as a single word in German. You could however write Taschenrechner-Bedienung if you think that it becomes clearer that way, but in my eyes it looks better if it is written withhout a hyphen.

It is about German composites as well as some related trivia just like this.
