Certified Translation ID

Hi everyone,

I urgently need a certified translation of my Romanian Birth Certificate to English, German or French. Do you know where this could be done in Switzerland?

Thanks.

Re: Certified Translation ID

Hi there,
I have been in the same situation, except translation was required from English to German, French or Italian. I checked with my Embassy here in Bern & they had a list online of approved companies that offered translation. I also searched on line for translators of foreign documents, then called for prices. I found the prices to be expensive ranging from 180 CH-FR to 250, just for a birth certificate. I don't know where you are located, so it may be cheaper than here.
Hope that gives you some help.

Re: Certified Translation ID

Thank you for the response jolee77. I checked with the Romanian Embassy but apparently there aren't any "certified translators" in Switzerland. It seems that I need to do this in Romania which is really annoying.

If someone happens to know where I could do this in Switzerland, though, please reply soon. If not, the topic can be closed.

Re: Certified Translation ID

Most Gemeinden have a Notar, he/she will certify the translation for you (stamp and signature, that is what is required). He/she doesn't of course check the quality of the work but records the the action in the official register. The quality of the translation is the job of the translator. The Notar's fee is about Fr.25.-- and is normally done straight away. Otherwise telephone.
But, just to be clear about this, it's better if the translator goes to the notar as there has to be proof of ID and the translation needs to be on headed paper. So there will be an extra charge for his/her visit to the notar's office.

Re: Certified Translation ID

Thanks Busby. I ended up ordering the translation from http://www.traduceri-legalizate.com/ . It's done in Romania, all they need is a scanned copy and they can send it by post back to you. It might be useful to others so I'll leave it here. They also handle many other languages but the website is in Romanian.

Re: Certified Translation ID

I am not familiar with Romania but most of the time you can get the document translated by any translator and then bring both the orginal and the translation to the Embassy / Consulate and have them certified it. Also you may need to ask the other party what they accept as form of certification (i.e. by whom)

Hello kathaklysm,
I am going through the same issue right now (need my birth certificate to be translated from Romanian to English/German and it's not easy to find certified translators in Basel).
I was wondering if you DID manage in the end to get yours translated through the web-site you have mentioned and whether you were satisfied with the service.
Thank you very kindly in advance!
Best wishes,
Maia.

In case you din't know, Romanian community in Switzerland is a small, but a very bright and disciplined one. Take your pick.
