Telc or Goethe exam?

Hello, everyone.

I am planning on taking a certificate test for German level B1 in early 2014. Could anyone tell me the difference between Telc exam and Goethe exam at level B1? Which one would you suggest me to prepare for?

Thanks a lot!

Hi

I would say, that Telc attaches more value to conversation then Goethe. Goethe attaches more value to the grammar. But they are very similar; in Zurich there are much more possibilities to do the Telc certificate then the Goethe.
Regards
Elias (I know the telc certificate quite well, because I have an examiner-licence)

Re: Telc or Goethe exam?

Hi, Elias, Thanks a lot!

I have a further question. Do Telc and Goethe exams have similar format and take similar amount of time?

When it comes for the application for the Swiss C permit, are both types of exam certificates accepted by the Swiss Immigration Offices?

Do anyone have information on these? Thanks in advance!

Re: Telc or Goethe exam?

I also have a question.
I will (fingers crossed) be receiving a B1 certificate for successfully completing a UZH/ETH Sprachenzentrum B1 class.
Does this qualify me for the same things that a TELC or Goethe exam would?
Or is there some value in taking one of these exams in addition?

Yes, they look very similar - and also similar (or same) amount of time. And of course, both are accepted - Telc means "the europoean language company" and the headoffice for German is in Frankfurt. So the written part is corrected there. This means, it takes some time till you know the results.

I honestly don't know how this Sprachenzentrum-test is. But you can compare - habe a look at www.telc.net I just know, that some authorities accept either Telc or Goethe - you might have to ask.

Re: Telc or Goethe exam?

Hi there,

I am also interested in taking the TELC test in January, would anyone know where this can be taken, exam only and on any day?
so far ive only come across berlitz and they cost about 275CHF

I read somewhere that the Goethe exams only happen at certain times of the year is this correct? thanks

Re: Telc or Goethe exam?

I took the Goethe, and my OH the telc B1. The preparation was the same, the format basically the same, the practice tests rather indistinguishable. I think his test cost a tiny bit less. Both are accepted. Good luck!

There are many schools who give it but usually only set times during the year (both TELC and Goethe). 275chf sounds like the "discount" price. Normally it's over 300chf. Note you can also take it nearby in Germany for 110 to 140eur.

For the B1 exam, this was only true until 31 July 2013. From 1 August 2013, Telc and Goethe have two different exams for B1! Goethe basically changed their B1 exam format and no longer offers the exam jointly with Telc. The new Goethe format has a stronger focus on writing and eliminated the pure grammar section. Depending on what you're good at, you may very well find one easier than the other. General thoughts are usually that the new Goethe B1 will be more difficult than Telc.

Many places in Zurich offer the Telc exams... The ones that I found before with online information include:

EB Zurich
http://www.eb-zuerich.ch/files/pdf/d...fungsdaten.pdf

Alemania
http://www.alemania.ch/download/anmeldung_telc.pdf

Migros Klubschule
*unfortunately, you'll need to sort through this to find the exams (vs. the prep courses) since they're all listed on the same page
http://www.klubschule.ch/Angebote/An...eutsch-Diplome

Flying Teachers
http://www.flyingteachers.ch/telc1.html

In any event, you want the complete list, you can find them here:
http://www.telc.net/en/for-learners/find-exam-centres/

Good luck!
