Help! What's a "carte gise"?

Just received a letter from the tax office re our car and among the things they want copies of is a "carte gise". I can't find this word anywhere.

The actual sentence is:

De plus, vous voudrez bien nous faire parvenir une copie de carte gise, du livret de service et du carnet anti-pollution de votre vehicule que vous utilisez pour ces trajets pour les annees 2012/2013/2014.

Re: Help! What's a "carte gise"?

It's a typo - should say "carte grise".
They're generally stored in the glove box of the car, with the instruction manuals etc.
Looks like this (only done on a printer rather than a typewriter these days): http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/3279/cgbus.jpg

Re: Help! What's a "carte gise"?

Thanks for the confirmation folks. It hit me just as I was about to post the thread, but thought I'd do so anyway - just in case my guess was wrong! Now I just have to dig out all the paperwork for the last 3 years as we changed the car in 2012.

It's the grey card. Must be a typo. Should be carte grise.

Just in case it wasn't clear from all the other posts it's a typo and should read carte grise.

Sounds like your being investigated, do you claim a huge milage deduction every year? It seems like a very unusual request, I would speak to a professional before replying. As the Swiss would say there has been a 'misunderstanding' somewhere.

Because calling it "carte blanche" may give drivers the impression that they don't have to care about traffic rules

Yes, we do as my husband drives to Lausanne every day for work (75k one way) as it's much quicker than by public transport.

Ok so that's a 25k annual deduction they want to see you actually do have a car & it clocks up some miles each year. There was talk of reducing the maximum deduction to 3k a year.

It can't be because of the colour. It was called the carte grise in Belgium and it was pink there.

Yes, looking back at my copies of the tax forms I forgot to put the details of the car in for last two years, even though I was claiming the kms. Which is why they're querying it. I do keep track of days that he works each year and only claim for those rather than using the standard 220 days a year worked, but as you say it still adds up. This year's form was just over 18,500 as a deduction.

Verbier, well they're pretty sensible about it because it is actually grey in colour.

Must say I am baffled how often people give the same answer as the person above and the one above them... do people read threads before answering?
ecb gave the correct answer once, 2 mins after the question was asked, isn't hat enough?
