Dazpod - recommended

I'm in a perennial state of trying to learn German -- not with great success, admittedly. I like podcasts, and thought I'd drop in to mention the most recent one I've found that seems particularly useful. I have no relationship of any sort with these people, apart from being a subscriber.

It's called Dazpod (www.dazpod.de). There is a free version that gives you a weekly podcast featuring a brief sketch, followed by some explanation. Typically, an episode lasts 15-20 minutes. All of this is in German, so note that the standard is not for complete beginners. They divide the material into Beginners and Intermediate level, but in reality you need to be at least A2.

You can also upgrade to a paid version for 3 euros a month. For this, you get the podcasts plus a full transcript of each episode. Personally, I find this essential to enable me to look up words. But the cost is very low, so no complaints.

What i like most about this one is the professionalism of the material. The couple acting out the sketches sound like pro actors, or certainly experienced teachers. And there is also a lot of humour and insights into German culture. I repeat - the material consists mainly of little playlets, which may not satisfy everyone. There are no long explanations about the finer points of grammar. It focuses on increasing vocabulary, understanding usage, and above all, listening practice.

My only minor grumble so far is that there is no comprehensive Wortschatz provided, so it means a lot of looking up. But for 3 euros, you can't have it all.

Well worth a try.
