Re: Schwiizerdütsch vs Hochdeutsch

For example, I know that in the mountains around us, and some other areas, there's a tendency to (mis-)promounce the 'ei' syllable, so white wine is 'vees veen', but I also know full well that the best way to avoid any possible misunderstanding throughout Switzerland is to stick with 'vice vine'.
They do that around here, and for my entire first year I would always loudly and confidently chirrup "Gliichfalls!" after someone wished me a nice day/eve/weekend. I didn't realise it was dialect and just thought that I had been mistaken in how I thought "Gleichfalls" was pronounced, after hearing everyone else pronounce it the Swiss way. I really hope they didn't think I was taking the piss! I've stopped doing it now and pronounce it the high German way.
