Curley: could you define "private people"?
Lots of Swiss send sms in Swiss German (I hate them ... the sms, not the people).
I didn't realize there were many books written in Swiss German until I read EastEnders post.

.....But it could well be an alemanic expression, in which case the Bayern (Bavarians) and the Schwaben (people from Baden-Württemberg) may be familiar with the the term as well.
Actually I think it is "imported" from Germany.

"im Arsch" I've not really heard but I would understand it's ruined. And as the SwissintheUS I read the headline as if the wedding did not happen.
When I hear "am Arsch" I understand 'in troubles' like 'I'm in deep shit'.

Re: "im Arsch" - Language question

Who is this Melanie whatsit anyway? And why is it so catastrophic that someone tweeted photos of a celeb wedding... isn't that why celebs are celebs in the first place?

She was Miss Switzerland I think 20 years or so ago. She's not a celeb. Hence the headline

No idea, I only watch Netflix

Guess for Swiss standards she's comparably well-known, at least to many who've lived here for 25+ years. Not a celeb though, but then with very few exceptions, I wouldn't know who around here is an actual celeb.

She's Cervelat-Prominenz. Unknown outside of CH.

Re: "im Arsch" - Language question

Some more Arsch-phrases, just to proof that German is an Anal-fixated language:

- Stock im Arsch.
- am Arsch vorbei
- Finger aus dem Arsch
- in den Arsch kriechen
- Arschlecker
- arschkalt
- Arschgeweih
- Den Arsch riskieren

but not

- Den Marsch blasen

Wolgang Amadeus Mozart, the cheeky trickster, wrote a canon for 6 male voices called...

Leck Mich Im Arsch.

- verarschen
- Leck mich!
- Arschgesicht
- ein Arsch mit Ohren
- kein Arsch war da!
- die Arschbacken zusammenklemmen
- sich den Arsch abfrieren
- am Arsch isch finster

Hmm. Perhaps I have a bit of an anal fixation

Leck Mich Im Arsch.

B-minor is somehow not the key I would sing it in if I were angry
