the real hilarity will always come from imitating the accent of the other.
My wife can't do German, but she can imitate pretty much any Italian accent or dialect.

Napolitano is one her best, along with Calabrese and Triestine.

(first time I went to Trieste I thought that they were all foreigners)

They are. They're Italian.

Even worse, they were within a whisker of becoming Yugoslav, and presumably then Slovenian. That's properly foreign.

They're Italian.
You wouldn't know by their accents.

My wife's great-grandmother was from Trieste (however she was actually Spanish), but back when it was part of Austria.

They still have property there, however (which is why we go).

Italy with Swiss prices!

Isn't Slovenia sort of half Italian anyway?

Slavic language but Italian lifestyle.

You can get away with Italian (near the border) or English there.

Of course, a lot of it WAS Italian between WW1 and WW2.

(same with Croatia).

Famed Italian/American race driver Mario Andretti was born in what is now Croatia (but was then Italy).

Re: Let's talk about cliches!

There are tons of jokes based on cliches and the license plates, some examples below:

ZH = Zwenig Hirn (too little brain)
BE = Bin Eingeschlafen (fell asleep)
SG = Saugoofe (cheeky kid)
GR = Gemeiner Raubritter (Common robber knight)
AG = Alles Gauner (Everything crook)
LU= lauter Unfähige (only incompetent)
ZG= Zviel Geld (too much money)
AI = Alles Idioten (all idiots)
AR = Alle religiös (All religious)

...and so on in endless varations....

Just the ones I've picked up from conversation:

Bern = slow
Aargau = bad drivers, white socks
Zurich = arrogant, rich
St Gallen/Thurgau = hilarious accent
Appenzell = reactionary peasants
Wallis = incomprehensible
Glarus = a bit odd

Ticinesi=unable to follow rules (coming from Swiss-Germans)
Swiss Romands - something about making terrible soldiers

From personal observations, conversations and hearsay:
Fribourg: smelly farmers
Bern: slow, really slow
Zurich: arrogant
Geneva: arrogant and boring
Aargau: terrible drivers
Valais: terrible drivers and alcoholics

Everyone on the EF makes a minimum of 120k. Anything below that is at the poverty level.
So we have some matchs, right? Bern, Zurich, Aargau...
Thank you all!
Just a question, what is EF?

I knew those as
AR - Alpen-Roesli (little mountain rose)
AI - Alpen-Idioetli (little mountain idiot)

but I think the last is due to most rental cars running those plates with people driving badly in them...

Valais: Blood alcohol content of up to 0.1% is allowed while driving because babies are born with 0.05% already.
