Actually not. They might have a cab at both ends but the engines are almost always either at one end only or underneath it somewhere. Except maybe the old S-Bahn where when they joined two bits together there was also often an engine in the middle somewhere

Anyhow irrelevant. Front is the direction it is moving in.
