Typical of my yodel choir. It was announced last week that we were all going on tour around Appenzell on the last week-end of September (like, yes, this month) and the yodels to be learnt were released last night. Too bad if you work full time and have plenty of family commitments..."You MUST attend and not let your comrades down!" In typical Swiss-German fashion, it is expected that I memorise all the texts during my sleeping time probably!
If I find a way to attach the text (still struggling with this), could someone help with an approximate translation so that at least I understand what I'm singing? (No one in the choir has sufficient level of English or French to explain it to me...and some of them have been in Geneva for 30 years!).
There is big pressure for this particular yodel as it is an Appenzeller one and we are singing it in front of the President of the Swiss Yodel Association who is hosting us... and I don't fancy being sent out to sleep in the barn with the cows for screwing up! Thanks for any help I can get! https://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/a99cc...ee29157af7.pdf
I am trying the link above and pdf attachment is not working.

I did work out that it is to do with a cattle fair and there's some kind of festivities going on, but that's it.

Hey - when I get concert scores on short notice, I have a drill technique that always works: morning and evening you sing it off the paper then in between you listen with the recordings and read through, without singing. I listen and read on a treadmill since the motion makes me retain all in no time. I have memorized two 300p concert books in a week. Good luck! You can do it. It is all about memory works, retrieval, it is not complicated. It is something you love doing..that helps. Warn your family, though. And neighbors. Mine keep their doors and windows open, they seem to like the noise

Yodel is the prettiest when soft and quiet, but I guess it's tough.
Stick a concert poster on the wall in the corridor? I do it when I practice, to warn the building.

Ok two Posts. One with a "high German" Translation of the song, one with an English Translation Wit unne im Dorf isch d’Wese scho g’richt, sie hät hüt am Morge e ganz bsonders Gsicht. I Reihe ond Reihe, do stoht Hag om Hag, ir taufrische Wese för d’Vechschau parat. Ond s’goht gär nüd lang, stönd all i de Reih, noch Johrgang ond Leistig di ganz Sennerei, ond Buure stönd zeme ond schöttid es Gspiel, ond zaurid ond trinkid ond plauderid viel. De Dorfplatz wär still ond d’Wese wär lär, ond mer wärid arm, wenn d’Vechschau nüd wär. | The following 6 users would like to thank irish_temptation for this useful post:

English Translation:
Far down in the village the Meadow is prepared
It has a a Special face this morning
Row after row, is fence after fence
in the dew covered meadow ready for the cattle Show.
A wreath covered entrance is shining in the sun
and the writing on the blackbord says "welcome".
Look the village is waking up, it steams in the sun
you hear the bells from afar, the cows are mooing everywhere
At once you can see the first Senn Walking quickly
followed by cows covered in bells, how lovely this sounds,
And already another one is coming up from the village, around a Corner
now there is mooing and bells everywhere.
After a short while they can ready in rows,
ordered by year and Performance all the People of the alpine dairy association
The Farmers are gathered
and talk and drink a lot
That's basically it, in a nutshell I hope you see the Picture it paints rather vividly.
Enjoy! I love Appenzell

Is this a song about a celebration related to Alpenabzug or something? Kind of cute.

It comes after the Alpabzug. All the cows of all the farmers are lined up and ranked, by look and milk production. It is also used to trade and sell cows.
Here impressions from one in Stein:
Next one in Appenzell City is 2. Oktober 2018. Here other dates all around Switzerland https://homepage.braunvieh.ch/xml_1/.../d602/f603.cfm | The following 3 users would like to thank aSwissInTheUS for this useful post:

| | Re: HELP! It's Swiss-German yodel time again! | Quote: | | | | jez schelleds ond bleereds ond zaureds om Wett. | | | | | I think "zaure" means someone produces a "Juchzer", a fairly high pitched melodic shout as an expression of joy, elation, or simply the thrill of being alive.
I have no sound in the office, can link an exmple later. Or search for "juchzer" on youtube yourselves. | Quote: | | | | ond Buure stönd zeme ond schöttid es Gspiel, | | | | | "Gspiel" can mean a spontaneously formed group to entertain others by playing musical instruments, or singing a song, and the performing itself.
No idea what "schöttid" means. There's a dance type called Schottisch (4/4 stroke), it also denotes the music type played for that dance. Perhaps the two are related.
[just to avoid confusion: schottisch usually translates to Scottish in English]
I'd translate that line with
Und die Bauern stehen zusammen und singen ein Lied.
The farmers group up and sing a song

And thanks again to all my translators, it is much easier to learn once you know what it is about. Parts one and two memorised and sung not too badly, the yodel part is dead easy. Last part to go then it's on to the next one on the list!
