language proficiency requirement

Hi all,

For applying permit C, as I read the language level B1/B2 need to be reached. However, may i know if that level in Italian also accepted in German speaking region?

Please advise or let me know any successful example. Thank you.

I would check the requirements from the Canton. German Speaking Cantons usually insist on German Language proficiency.

Re: language proficiency requirement

For italian speaking people, no language requirement applies for the german part of switzerland in relation to permission c. That's what i remember from my ex colleague in ZH.

Re: language proficiency requirement

Depends on your nationality.

In canton Zurich there is no language requirement if you are a citizen of one of the following countries:

- Belgium,
- Germany
- Denmark
- France
- Principality of Liechtenstein
- Greece
- Italy
- Netherlands
- Austria
- Portugal
- Spain

For the rest it is either German on level A2 or B1 depending on length of stay and nationality.

Not just Zurich canton, that exemption applies all over Switzerland.

Thank you. So In zurich Canton the requirement can only be reached by German A2/B1? Italian not applicable?

German. A2 or B1 depending on length of stay and nationality. Check linked document what applies in your case.

It is for your own good. With permit C comes regular taxation. Which means you should at least slightly understand what is written in this document https://www.steueramt.zh.ch/internet...017_HA+DEF.pdf

Re: language proficiency requirement

Zurich also limits the German test to a few specific organizations. You can take classes/lessons at any school, but the test must be from one of these:

Telc: https://www.telc.net/

Goethe: https://www.goethe.de/de/index.html

ÖSD: https://www.osd.at/

TestDaf: www.testdaf.de

Re: language proficiency requirement

thank you 3 wishes. Do you know if the test is necessary? Or just a certificate from a famous language school?

Maybe we're getting mixed up in terminology so I'll do my best to clarify.

A "certificate" from any school simply means you took classes with them and completed the classes. It doesn't show your level of competency.

For example I have a certificate from Migros Klubschule that says I completed their A1 German course. It's actually an attendance record and doesn't prove to the cantonal authorities that I actually know how to read, write and speak German to an A1 level.

To prove your level of competency, you need to take a test. Canton Zurich will only accept test results from the places listed above. The result of that test might actually be in the form of a certificate.

In any case, the purpose of the test is to prove you've reached the required level of listening, reading comprehension, writing, and oral communication.

HTH.
