Re: how to end a zoom call

I've never understood the point of meetings, I much prefer emails.

This is one I just can't stand. I think it can come across as patronising when someone decides about another's time. Why would anyone be permitting another to leave, and deciding when it's going to happen? If they want to go, they're free to do so. If I want to go, I must take responsibility for that.
This! I hate it too. wth do they think they are?

As to OP: A simple "I gotta go" should do. And - on video - the waving bit before hitting the button is good, takes off the harshness.
This covid times brought video calls into my life, before I just ignored any demands to turn on the camera. But I actually think just being able to hit the disconnect button is a lot easier.

I can't stand a meeting that lasts more than 15-20 minutes.
Useless waste of time, I have better things to do.
Tom
Same here. I usually just take over the lead/moderation and surprise, surprise 20 minutes later I (and other non-babblers) can leave.

It depends. A five minute phone call or conversation in-person (remember those?) can prevent a series of useless e-mail ping-pongs which end up being CC-ed to a bunch of people who don’t care about the topic.

Re: how to end a zoom call

Here's one I heard quite a lot. If the meeting is scheduled to last for 30 minutes and it is wrapping up after 20 minutes, you say, "Let me give you back 10 minutes of your day."

I find it a bit nauseating but you did ask.

just never set up a meeting without a list of points that need to be talked about.

If there is no list, I cancel the meeting.
Anything not on the list is considered AOB (Any Other Business) and taken at the end, IF there is time.

I often would designate one participant to detail action items :What; Who; When which is sent to all participants after the meeting/call. This responsibility rotates so no one person gets stuck with it.
