Celta

Hi everyone,

I was wondering how many have you have done a CELTA certificate programÖ I am thinking of applying, however I am not too convinced/sure that I want to do the program. Has anyone here successfully obtained an English teaching license? I know that salt is accredited in Switzerland, but Iím not sure if it will be an advantage on my CV. What do you recommend that I do a Celtic certificate program, would it improve my chances of finding a job?

I have a bachelors of arts [double major in poli sci and English]. I was admitted into teachers college, but never got the chance to study since I moved here. I have been in Switzerland for five years.

Somewhat unrelated, I have another question.

I am in the midst of preparing for my B2 German exam withe TELC. Can I do an Ausbildung with a B2? I know PH and Uniís want C2 (which I doubt I can obtain). I really donít know what to doÖ Iím on the search for a job, but no one or nowhere has ever responded on a positive note..

Re: Celta

Welcome to the Forum. I don't know whether Celta is valuable or not but I can tell you the market for English teachers here is pretty saturated. Both nationalities in your profile are non-EU. Any chance you are married to a Swiss or EU citizen residing here?

One of my friends is a native English speaker, has CELTA and at least one other qualification, and even speaks German and Swiss German fluently. The best this person could find was teaching a few English classes a week at one of the language schools, and that's with being married to a Swiss.

Re: Celta

Yup, did it, finished it, never used it since: "Oh you need two years experience before we will give you a job!"
Five grand out of the fornicating window and two weeks of my life (was the "intensive" course) Still smarting about that.

Re: Celta

Thanks for the reply!

I knew it wouldnít be super advantageous on my CV, especially because I have no professional teaching experience. Thanks for the replies

Iím married to a (Turkish-)Swiss, been here for 5 years. Trying to learn the language. German isnít our common language (we both speak Turkish), thus learning has been even harder.

In order to find a job in CH, would I need to have a diploma of any sort? Of course after Iíve grasped a better understanding and practicality of German.
