Play and improve your vocabulary

I am now hooked on this site...

http://www.freerice.com/index.php

You "earn" rice that goes to feed the hungry and by selecting your chosen language you can really practice your German, French or English vocabulary for that matter...

Hmm just think you can feed the world and end up with the vocabulary of Dougal's breakfast!!

What? They let you make up words as you go along?

I think not DB. I have to admit that it has improved my German lexicon substantially. I can now say three words I understand!!

A subtle game in which people's priorities, eagerness to learn or to be generous, are revealed. Those seeking personal enlightenment will rejoice at discovering such gems as hapax, piupiu or simoom in the vocabulary section, whereas selfless individuals only concerned in a rapid increase of their rice donation will opt for the multiplication table.

I'd already been using this for quite some time now, just now thanks to you, realized there are other subjects, I'll give the X tables a miss, as I truly do want to donate rice and with the other subjects, I do at least do that.
Cheers,

Ros

Ok that's 9000 pieces of rice today and enough German words remembered to impress, erm, probably no one! But at least I feel productive...

Re: Play and improve your vocabulary

Thanks so much - I've played this before in English, in a showy off 'look at my extensive vocabulary' way, but I never realised it did other subjects. The French is very useful.

The correct German word for "headache" is "Kopfschmerz(en)", Ms Sutter.

You are welcome.
