How do you say.... in German?

"Please move your car. You are blocking my door."?
My neighbour's decided to park on the sidewalk literally on the steps to my door for the last few days. I wrote the note in English, but to no avail.
Help? thanks!

Re: How do you say.... in German?

Just realised I've been in Germany too long... away from Swiss-style German. I think Swiss say "parkieren" and Germans say "parken". But it should be understandable... good luck

If the above don't work, fresh dog poop on his door handle might be a good reminder.

Re: How do you say.... in German?

Ich möchte Sie gerne bitten Ihr Auto nicht vor meiner Türe zu parkieren. Eigentlich sollte es auf einem offiziellen Parkplatz (z.B. blaue Zone) stehen.

Vielen Dank und beste Grüsse

...

Well blaue Zone is for Zurich, but I'm sure there are such parking zones almost in every city.

Good luck.

Thank you, this is very nice. But why park where you have to pay when there is my doorstep?

If you want to be really harsh you can inform him that you report his number to the police and they will do the job

I can't do that. I think I am too soft for Zurich. I would have never survived here long term.

Re: How do you say.... in German?

No, honestly - if the car is noticed by the "parking police" which is quite active in Zurich, he will get a fine. No joke. It's really not allowed to park everywhere where one wants to.

But it's difficult you are right - and to be nice is sometimes much much better.

Well, it didn't bother me when the car stopped for a few minutes, picked someone up, or whatever. But if someone is just using it as a permanent parking spot and I have to get my clothes dirty while climbing over the car, then that's crossing the line.
So, even if they put this weird looking paper clock thingy in the window and park on the sidewalk, it's still illegal?

Re: How do you say.... in German?

Yes it is really illegal to park your car on the footpath.

And no real Swiss would do that

Re: How do you say.... in German?

Unless a blue rectangle was painted overnight on your path/doorstep. Which is unlikely... but possible as ocassionally there are odd parking places. Just make sure they don't go over the time allowed on their blue zone parking clock...

Not strictly true, outside a friend's flat in Bern, the blue spaces are half on the road, half on the pavement (footpath, sidewalk, for the non-Anglos).

Can't you write him a personal parking ticket? I thought that was common in ZH?
