Does anyone know of a good address of a reasonably-priced language school in England for a 20-year-old Swiss boy to improve his English ? He's a friend of my son's and will be starting Engineering school in September.
He knows he's left it a bit late, but would like to do 1 or 2 months "total immersion", preferably in a small or medium sized town.
Also an English family to stay with whilst there ... possibly an exchange with an English youngster of a similar age ? I know the family well so can recommend him OK.

Does anyone have any suggestions ?

been to Cambridge for 2 mnths with ESL...EF is quite good too, there are many but its difficult to find any "cheap" ones, language schools are quite expensive

It's in Scotland but Edinburgh has one of the nicest regional accents in the UK.
I used to work there. They are a great school, and I am saying this as an ex-underpaid employee. They don't pay their teachers much, but they have really good, excellently qualified staff. Maximum of 8 students per class. Well equipped, sociable and small school.
When I was there the students had 3 hours and 45 mins of group classes per day, two hours with one teacher, a 30 min break, then 1hour 45 min with a second teacher, then optional one to one teaching/social events/free time in the afternoon. The school organised social (in English) events to give the students the opportunity to speak outside of class. Also the students were a real mix- I had asians, europeans and arabic students, and the social side was active- so a lot of chances to talk english. The students were mostly young adults doing pre-uni courses but most classes had the odd business person or bored housewife type.
This was two years ago- when I left they were being taken over by a bigger company, so they may have gone down hill.
I don't know about the pricing, but it was an extremely high quality school, small classes, teachers taking and an interest in and responsibility for each student. They also arrange homestay- so the students live with a host family. All the host families are vetted, so they have safe english speaking home environments.
